In the challenge match (once every four years the provincial berth following the Central playoffs can be sought by a Calgary school), the Ponoka Broncs edged the Calgary Queen Elizabeth Knights 49-46 as Grant Gordon scored 21, Shawn Johnston 12 and Doug Bennett 9. Lee Read led the Knights with 19. Tony Luyken added 14.

In the quarterfinals, held in Brooks, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots defeated the Coaldale Kate Andrews Gaels 48-38. “They are just a superior ball club,” Gael coach Pius Labolevech told the Lethbridge Herald. “I look for them to be in the final.” The Gaels fell behind 9-6 after one quarter and trailed 21-18 at the half and 33-28 after three quarters. Kevin Siwak led the Scots with 17. Len Sarliere added 14. Mike Girbav paced the Gaels with 12. John Wright added 11. The Gaels shot 30% from the field and 4-15 from the line. The Gaels included George Low, Mike Girbav, John Wright, Leonard Boras.

        The Vulcan County Central Hawks defeated the Vegreville Cougars 53-47.

        The Edmonton St. Mary’s Angels defeated dumped the host Brooks Buffalos 80-72. The Buffalos included Al Ferguson, Reid Shuttleworth, Dennis Daniels, Lorne Bunny.

        In the last quarterfinal, the Ponoka Broncs edged the Beaverlodge Royals 41-38. The Royals included Jim Bonin.

        In the semis, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots dumped the Ponoka Broncs 61-33. Shawn Johnston paced the Broncs with 14.

        In the other semi, the Edmonton St. Mary’s Angels clipped the Vulcan County Central Hawks 62-50.

        In the bronze medal match, the Vulcan County Central Hawks defeated the Ponoka Broncs 76-66 (also reported as 76-55) as Bruce McLean scored 32. Shawn Johnston led the Broncs with 14. The Broncs also included Doug Bennett, Grant Gordon, Eldon Raab, Ron Andreychuk.

In the final, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots defeated the Edmonton St. Mary’s Angels 61-38 as Don Lacroix scored 16. The Scots finished (33-2) on season.
