In the bronze medal match, the 2nd-seeded Foremost Forettes defeated the 5th-seeded Coalhurst Trojans 61-55. “We had very few players and at Christmas time we only had five players,” said Foremost coach Glen Magneson. “So we thought if we were going to keep it alive, we would have to bring up the Grade 9s. If the program dies it’s hard to get back again.” Jessica VanBusKirk, Kaitlyn Vanspaalduine and Amanda Ivanics made the jump from the Grade 9 ranks to high school hoops. “The Grade 9s gave up their Grade 9 year to come out and keep our team alive so. All the teams at provincials were really close this year. Both of us were hoping to be in the other (gold medal) game. Coalhurst is a good team. They’ve got some strong inside players. Unfortunately they had an injury going into the last game.” Lisa Ivanics scored 40 to lead Foremost. Logan Klatt added 8. “We are so tickled to do as well as we did this year,” said Magneson. “We were just trying to keep everything going so the team could still be in Foremost.” The Crusaders (coached by Dawn Berry) included Kaitlyn Cole, Ashlee Dupuis, Helen Entz, Samantha Hirsch, Sarah Lenz, Marissa Masnyk, Genevieve Mead, Sarah Peters, Kayla Robertson and Kelsey Robertson.
