They used everything they’ve been working on all year long and put it all on the floor,” Knights coach Veronica DenOudsten told the Lacombe Globe. “It was an amazing performance and they deserved this third-place win. I was very proud of them.” The Knights opened with a 20-2 run but the Lakers rallied to trim the margin to single digits in the second half. “You expect that the energy is there. They’re a quality team, they have some quality athletes out there that can shoot,” DenOudsten said. “We got a little tired and that was a little expected because that’s how our season’s gone. … The big thing for us this year was to stay in control, stay focused – have mental discipline. They were able to do that.” DenOudsten said that captain Matthew Boang hit a critical trey to stem the Lakers momentum with 2 minutes to play. “Matthew – he’s an awesome kid. He got that three-point play with an extra one. It was awesome. He’s had a few games where he was struggling offensively, but he’s never let it get him down. He’s always been a strong captain and for him to get some points along the way was awesome. … Stirling is an incredible team and they’re young. I’d put my money on them winning a few provincial championships. We’re lucky to get this win in here against those guys. They’re a strong team and our guys just continued to work the whole game.” Matthew Boang paced the Knights with 34.
