In the opening round of a nine-team draw, held in Cold Lake, the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Celtics nipped the Forestburg Falcons 55-54 as Zenon Smiechowski scored 18. The Falcons included Lynn Ponto.
In the quarterfinals, Cereal clocked Caroline 66-34 as Donald Klym scored 36 and Jim Proudfoot 16. Monty Trimble led Caroline with 12. Roger Land added 10. Caroline included Darryl Klatt, Don Cameron.
The Cardston St. Mary’s Blood Reserve Warriors dispatched the Westlock St. Mary’s Huskies 49-42 (also reported as 49-41) as Bob Wells scored 16 and Narcisse Blood 11. The Huskies included Vernon Mitchell.
The Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Celtics thrashed Cold Lake St. Dominics 78-25 as Zenon Smiechowski scored 28.
In the last quarterfinal, the Myrnam Barons torched the Cremona Cougars 55-33. The Cougars included Donald Oldfield.
In the semis, Cereal defeated the Myrnam Barons 52-44.
In the other semi, the Cardston St. Mary’s Blood Reserve Warriors dispatched the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Celtics 75-55 as Alvin Redcrow scored 18. Jim Curia led the Tomahawks with 22. The
In the bronze medal match, the Myrnam Barons nipped the Grand Prairie St. Joseph’s Celtics 55-53 as Leonard Chansyk scored 26. Jim Ciura led the Celtics with 20. The Celtics led 44-40 after three quarters but folded down the stretch after Zenon Smiechowski fouled out. The Celtics (coached by Patrick McDonald) also included George Salacki, Joe Salacki, Ken O’Reilly, Ed Pardell, Barry Pardell, Randy Bremner, Mike Cook and Rob Lessoway.
In the final, the Cardston St. Mary’s Blood Reserve Warriors defeated Cereal 51-42 as Casey Scott scored 13 and Narcisse Blood 9. Donald Klym paced Cereal with 16. The Warriors finished (46-10) on the campaign.
