In the quarterfinals, held in Calgary, the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clipper Queens clipped the Red Deer Kittens 46-34 as Myrna Albert scored 9, Sherry Groves 8 and Barb Payne 8. Brenda Bjornson led the Kittens with 13. The Kittens also included Cheryl Stephenson, Lynn Mathieson.

        The Calgary St. Francis Browns defeated the Edmonton Strathcona Lords 50-36 as Teresa Steiert scored 18 and Lisa Baker 12. The Lords included Heather Alton, Lorrie Waldron.

        The Calgary E.P. Scarlett Lancers clipped the Edmonton Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds 33-23. The Thunderbirds included Noreen Mitchell, Michelle Thornton, Sue Beck.

        In the last quarterfinal, the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Ceinahs stunned the Calgary Western Canada Redmen 56-49 as Karen Crouse scored 23 and Marg Slipp 11 (also reported as Crouse 17, Slipp 14 and Carolyn McDonald 13). The Ceinahs dominated the third quarter by a 26-4 count, while their full-court pressure hounded the Redmen into miscues. Ceinahs coach Patrick McDonald told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “our biggest satisfaction was beating Western Canada. They were really cocky. … I’ve never seen our kids run like that.” Janet Atkinson led the Redmen with 26. The Redmen (coached by Lawrence King) also included Ann Miller, Louise Gallie, Sally Irving, Debbie Dinkel.

        In the semis, the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clipper Queens dispatched the Calgary St. Francis Browns 38-30 as Myrna Allert scored 11, Tammy Garrett 8 and Sherry Groves 8. Robette Pearson led the Browns with 11.

        In the other semi, the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Ceinahs clipped the Calgary E.P. Scarlett Lancers 44-34 as Carolyn McDonald scored 12 and Karen Crouse 10.

        In the bronze medal match, the Calgary E.P. Scarlett Lancers defeated the Calgary St. Francis Browns x-x as Carol Pogontcheff scored 10. Theresa Steiert led the Browns with 11. The Browns also included Glynis Griffiths.

        In the final, the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clipper Queens defeated the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Ceinahs 39-34 to capture their first crown after three consecutive campaigns as runners-up. The Ceinahs led 7-6 after one quarter. The Clipper Queens led 21-17 at the half but trailed by as many as 9 and by 29-24 after three quarters. “Then, however, with steady execution of their offence and tough defence,” said Clipper Queen coach Irene Karia, “combined with clutch foul shooting by rookie Tammy Garrett and Barb Payne we were able to come back for the win.” Barb Payne paced the Clipper Queens with 13 on 7-7 from the line. Tammy Garrett added 10, Debbie Wakelen 8 and Myrna Allert 7. Karen Crouse paced the Ceinahs with 14. Carolyn McDonald added 10 and Marg Slipp 8. Ceinahs coach Patrick McDonald told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “we went into a full-court press in the third quarter. That’s when we got into (foul) trouble.”
