In the quarterfinals, held in Sylvan Lake, the Onoway Sneakers defeated Airdrie 45-39 as Shelly Krasnow scored 17 and Diane Yeaman 12. Judy Cochrane paced Airdrie with 14. Debbie Albertson added 12. Airdreie also included Wendy Kinniburger.

        The Picture Butte Sugar Queens defeated dusted the Viking Vixens 54-40 as Donna Hanna scored 26 and Susan Warren 8. Lorna Winczura paced the Vixens with 16. Norma Place added 8. The Vixens also included Cheryl Anderson.

        The Sylvan Lake Lakers dispatched blasted the Peace River Glenmary Saints 51-19 as Becky Sjare scored 26, Sharon Johnson 10 and Cathy Deschamps 10. Heather Murray led the Saints with 7. Kathleen McLeod added 6. The Saints also included Patricia McLeod, Barbara Testawich.

        In the last quarterfinal, Bow Island defeated the Elk Point F.G. Miller Crusaders 29-24 as Val Cooper scored 14 and Diane Thacker 7. Debra Zenko led the Crusaders with 15. The Crusaders also included Sandra Ockerman, Marie Chubey.

        In the semis, the Picture Butte Sugar Queens defeated Bow Island 48-43 as Donna Hanna scored 15 and Susan Haney 12. Val Cooper led Bow Island with 12. Janet Wever added 12 and Barb Thorson 11.

        In the other semi, the Sylvan Lake Lakers whipped the Onoway Sneakers 53-25 as Becky Sjare scored 20, Cathy Deschamps 13 and Kathy Bignold 11.

        In the bronze medal match, Bow Island clipped the Onoway Sneakers 51-35 as Val Cooper scored 21, Janet Wever 10 and Shelly Roth 10. Donna Yeoman led the Sneakers with 16. The Sneakers also included Shelly Krasnow, Diane Yeaman

In the final, the Picture Butte Sugar Queens clocked the Sylvan Lake H.J. Cody Lakers 46-29 as Donna Hanna scored 15. Becky Sjare paced the Lakers, who won their third silver in eight years under coach Ann Rowberry, with 9. Linda Bernrot added 9. Rowberry told the Red Deer Advocate that “I told them (Picture Butte) it was my turn but they wouldn’t listen. We shot poorly but they were great too.” The Sugar Queens led 8-6, 18-11 and 31-23 at the quarters. Lakers Becky Sjare, Sharon Johnson and Kathy Bignold all fouled out. Rowberry said “a seven or eight-point deficit isn’t really that much. We felt if we could stay close for three quarters, we had a good shot at it. We did, but then we lost all our height and we were beaten under the basket.”
