In the quarterfinals, held in Grande Prairie, the host St. Joseph’s Ceinahs defeated the Sundre Comets 41-25 as Karen Crouse scored 12.

        The Delburne Trojans tripped the Bow Island Senator Gershaw Gators (then the Celestes) 25-22 as Brenda Watson scored 8 and Kathy Christensen 6.

        The Picture Butte Sugar Queens dumped the Elk Point F.G. Miller Crusaders 44-21. The Crusaders (coach G Miller, assistant P Shankowski, manager Sharon Heffernan) included Judy Tymofichuk, Pat Lesyk, Beatrice Sribney, Merrelyn Buksa, Elaine Nelson, Debbie Zenko, Cindy Aarbo, Myrna Seal, Marie Chubey, Susan Ference and Laureen Lindquist.

        In the last quarterfinal, the New Norway Spartans crushed the Edmonton Concordia Mustangs 45-20.

        In the semis, the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Ceinahs nipped the New Norway Spartans 28-27 as Karen Crouse scored 4.

        In the other semi, the Picture Butte Sugar Queens clipped the Delburne Trojans 37-26 as Donna Hanna scored 21. Kathy Christensen led the Trojans with 7. Bert Quinlan added 6 and Deb Buckland 6.  

        In the bronze medal match, the New Norway Spartans spanked the Delburne Trojans 44-30 as Diane Bjornson scored 20 and Deb Olson 10. Kathy Christensen led the Trojans with 10. Bertha Quinlan added 8 and Brenda Watson 6. The Trojans also included Deb Buckland (Duckland?), Karen Green.

In the final, the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Ceinahs defeated the Picture Butte Sugar Queens 41-34 (also reported as 36-31) as Margaret Slipp scored 16 and Karen Crouse 9. Ceinahs coach Patrick McDonald told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “I knew we would be competitive. The thing that gave us the advantage was our experience. They’ve played some top-notch competition this year.” The Ceinahs led 7-6, 18-17 and 30-23 at the quarters despite having star Karen Crouse playing with a brace to support a pulled knee ligament suffered two weeks earlier. McDonald said “I thought Karen was the inspiration in the final game. She was the one who made a difference to me. She played better than I expected. … Marg (Slipp) was the key in the final game. When she winds up, they get out of her way.” The Ceinahs finished (18-3) on the season. Picture Butte led 18-17 at the half.
