In the quarterfinals, held in Lacombe, the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cittens pounded the Lloydminster Baronettes 45-16 as Kathy Wilson scored 10 and Micky Kinahan 10. Sandra Wolfe led the Baronettes with 8. The Baronettes also included Rita Benoit, Sandra Brist.
The Medicine Hat Crescent Heights Chinooks thrashed the Edmonton St. Mary’s Angels 56-37 as Kathy Wiley scored 18 and Pam Mann 16. Michelle Larocque led the Angels with 13. Des Belter added 7. The Angels also included Donna Barker.
The Viking Vixens crushed the Grande Prairie St. Joseph’s Ceinahs 43-23 (also reported as 42-33) as Susan Wemp scored 16 and Norma Place 10. Ceinahs coach Patrick McDonald told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “it was a real rough game. We couldn’t do anything without Karen (Crouse, who fouled out. We needed her scoring.” The Ceinahs led 15-12 after one quarter. The Vixens led 23-17 at the half. Grande Prairie (coached by McDonald) also included Karen Abbott-Brown, Lynn Caldwell, Donalda Farewell, Maureen Wild, Sandra Bremner, Diane Cassidy and Charlotte Crouse.
In the last quarterfinal, the Lacombe Composite Ramettes torched the Vulcan Royals 50-22 as Laurie Martin scored 20, Laura MacKenzie 11 and Liz Jaffray 10. Ramettes coach Lois Farrington told the Red Deer Advocate “I think we were a little tight. I know we can play much better.” Lorna Hatton led the Royals with 11.
In the semis, the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cittens defeated the Medicine Hat Crescent Heights Chinooks 38-26 (also reported as 38-24). Kathy Wiley led the Chinooks with 12. Mickey Kinahan added 10. Joanne Myrol paced the Chinooks with 8.
In the other semi, the Lacombe Composite Ramettes clubbed the Viking Vixens 52-36 as Laurie Martin scored 21 and Laura Mckenzie 17.
In the bronze medal match, the Medicine Hat Crescent Heights Chinooks defeated the Viking Vixens 34-24. Kathy Wiley paced the Chinooks with 17. Joanne Myrol added 6.
In the final, the Lacombe Composite Ramettes whipped the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cittens 48-29 (also reported as 46-29) as Laurie Martn scored 24 and Laura Mackenzie 10. The Ramettes took a 12-8 lead after one quarter on a late and-one from Joan Meindersma. They extended the margin to 26-16 at the half on a pair of buckets by Laura MacKenzie and one from Laurie Martin. They led by as many as 16 and by 34-22 after three quarters.
