The Picture
Butte Sugar Kings whipped the Sherwood Park Strathcona Christian Academy Eagles
68-46 as Todd Bergen-Henengouwen scored 15 and Logan Reiter 18. Evan Skutle led
the Eagles with 11. Matt Unrau added 9. The favoured Kings had a strong start
with 24 points in the first quarter, but the Eagles defence stepped up and held
them to just 44 the rest of the way. Butte held a 22-point lead at halftime. “The
kids played so hard defensively and stuck to our game plan really well, because
they only scored 68 points against us,” Strathcona coach Ryan Reed said. “If
you would have told me we’d hold them to 68 points, I’d think we’d have a shot
at winning, but we just could not shoot. We missed every possible shot you
could dream up — lay-ups, jump shots, three-pointers, free throws. We shot 26
per cent from the field that game, and kudos to their defence for making us take
tough shots, but you’re not going to win many games scoring 46 points. We did
pretty much everything else we set out to do. We competed so hard for 40 minutes,
so the only regret is the ball not going in the hoop.”
