In the opening round of the double-knockout Southern region tournament, held in Lethbridge, the Stirling Lakers defeated the Readymade Cobras 45-43 as Pat Bodnaruk hit the winner with three seconds to play, while capping a rally from a 10-point deficit. Jay Olar paced the Lakers with 14. Richard Nelson added 13, Clarke Hardy 8, Myron Eaves 7, Gary Schnoor 2 and Bodnaruk 2, while Verl Fyfe, Larry Gedrasik, Reid Hardy, Herget, Zenon Hnatui and Pat Clawson were scoreless. In the final, the Stirling Lakers edged the defending champion Readymade Cobras 56-51 as Jay Oler scored 20, Myron Eaves 15, Gerry Schnoor 8, Richard Nelson 6, Clarke Hardy 5 and Pat Bodnaruk 2, while Zenon Hnatui, Reid Hardy, Larry Gedrasik, Verl Fyfe and Pat Clawson were scoreless. Gerry Virginillo led the Cobras with 24. Frank Sovka added 8, Fiorie D’Andrea 7, F Doram 6, Don Doram 6, while McCann, R Doram, Otrhalek and Giacchetta were scoreless. The Cobras led 21-8, 30-28 and 38-37 at the quarters. The Lakers took command when Cobra post Fiorie D’Andrea fouled out in the fourth quarter. After the season, Readymade school was closed and its students moved to Coaldale.
