The Pincher Creek Sugar Kings defeated the Lethbridge St. Joseph’s Maroons 60-59 as LeRoy Lang hit the winning free throw after time had expired. Len Hylter led the Sugar Kings with 12. Lang added 12 and Ray Cook 11. Gardiner led the Maroons with 19. Jack Noonan added 14 and Jack Peters 11.
In the semis, Readymade Cobras eliminated the Pincher Creek Sugar Kings 68-43 as Jerry Sovka scored 22, Jerry Virginillo 16 and Elwin Miller 14. Tom Ferguson led the Sugar Kings with 10. Ted Smith added 9.
In the other semi, the Coutts Blazers eliminated Lethbridge St. Joseph’s Maroons 41-39 in double overtime as Theodore drove for the winning layup in the final minute. Theodore paced Coutts with 20. Alex Misak led St. Joseph’s with 14. Rodney Gardner added 20. The Maroons (coached by Peta) also included Lorne Kropinak, Delmar Homulos, Danny Peters, Alfred Koskowich, Jack Noonan and Quinius Wensveen.
In the bronze medal game, the Pincher Creek Sugar Kings nipped Lethbridge St. Joseph’s Maroons 60-59. The Maroons included Ron Gardiner, Alex Misak, Jack Noonan, Wensveen, Peters, Homulous, Koskowich.
In the final, the Readymade Cobras edged the Coutts Blazers 49-44 as Jerry Virginillo scored 15, Jerry Sovka 15, Ed Hranec 9 and Elwin Miller 7. Peter Rosewarn led Coutts with 15. Dave Theodore added 12 and Neil McLeod 7.
In the provincial semis, the Readymade Cobras defeated the Forestburg Falcons 72-27; x-x (2g-0). In game one, Readymade prevailed 72-27 as Jerry Virginillo scored 11, Bill Yanosick 10, Jerry Sovko 10 and Don Doram 9. The Cobras led 18-2 after one quarter and 38-8 at the half.
In the other semi, the Lacombe Rams defeated the Red Deer Lindsay Thurber (then Red Deer Composite) Raiders x-x. The Raiders included Don Wright.
