We have to play some good defence,” coach Todd Heggie told the Lethbridge Herald. “Now we advance to the next round where we’re going to see some good teams. So we’ll step it up defensively. We’re a believer that if we do that our offence will follow.” The offence sputtered early. “We came out and it was bouncing a bit funny right off the start,” said Heggie. “We were missing a lot of layups that we usually don’t miss. It was just a part of the game. You always expect that coming into a provincial game. It’s not a team that I think was nervous. I think it was a case of being too excited and trying too hard and doing things that are uncharacteristic. It was just pushing and trying too hard and once they settled down it started to flow pretty good for them. I think our defence kept up, our offence wasn’t rolling too smoothly, but our defence played pretty tough. I think that’s kind of what got us through this game, our defensive effort.” …………………………………………………… The 8th-seeded Calgary Bishop Grandin Ghosts nipped the 9th-seeded Edmonton Harry Ainlay Titans 77-74 as Randall Mosca scored 18, Connor Lemieux 17, Eddie Asamoah 15, Cameron Howey 8, Connor McCleary 6, Keith Burdylo 5, Josh Daniel 4 and Alex Jensen 4, while Tyler Seal, Sawyer Brown, Kurtis Belanger and Chris Maroti were scoreless. Everyone got along together and we had great collective talent. It was everything.” Kuljic said “it’s quite an honour. After playing basketball at this school for three years, lots of dedication outside of school, numerous hours of shooting around and lifting weights, and doing whatever you need to prepare, for it to all come down to one game and to win that game…it’s really something extraordinary. Very few people get to experience that in a lifetime.” Strahinja Kucinar said “at first I thought that this couldn’t have happened. For the whole year, our goal was to focus on (winning provincials) and then at the end to think that you’ve actually achieved it…when you put up a goal, and then actually achieve that goal, it’s a really great feeling.”
