In the quarterfinals, held in Edmonton, the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cougars stomped the Grande Prairie Tomahawks 68-36. The Cougars led 11-7, 31-16 and 42-21 at the quarters. Calvin Poirier and Peter Sikora each scored 14 to pace the Cougars. Randy Royer added 4. Bohdan Mychasiuk added 11. Hugh Young led the Tomahawks with 10. Rod (Ron?) McLaughlin added 9. Tomahawks coach Len Luders told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “we lacked the experience at the provincial level and even though the boys tried hard, they didn’t play as well as they could have.” The Tomahawks (coached by Len Luders) also included Perry Wilson, Les Goodkey, Ron Stojan.

The Calgary St. Francis Browns nipped the Red Deer Lindsay Thurber Raiders 51-50 in overtime as Greg Grassick hit three free throws in the extra three-minute session. The score had been tied at 48 after regulation. The Browns led 28-25 at the half. Grassick paced the Browns with 13. Al Ripplinger added 11, Gerry Hamel 9, Bill Takacs 9 and Tony Barbaro 9. Ripplinger scored 7 in the third quarter as the Browns built a 28-25 half-time lead into a 39-33 edge after three quarters. Doug Baker led the Raiders with 12. Mike Manning added 10, Blaine Whitfield 9, Les Gray 6 and Brian Rhodes 6. The Raiders also included Harold Grieb, Blaine Krieck, Blaine Whitfield, Ron Humting, Weldon Rowland, Brian Rhodes, Les Gray.

The Edmonton Harry Ainlay Titans pounded the Calgary Central Memorial Rams 80-49 as Mark Smith scored 18, Jerry Shockey 16, Rick Johnson 14, Wes McHarg 9, Robin Rosborough 6 and Norbert Schultz 6. The Titans led 15-12, 35-25 and 60-38 at the quarters. Garry Schmidt and Dan Lattman each scored 15 to pace the Rams. Don Lattman added 10 and Doug Durham 9. The Rams also included Ted Hallard, John Fryxell, Gary Schmidt.

        In the last quarterfinal, the Edmonton Eastglen Blue Devils nipped the Raymond Comets 52-50 on a pair of free throws by Will Harper with 24 seconds to play. Harper paced the Blue Devils with 23. Perry Brown added 11. Rick Smith led the Comets with 16. The Comets (coached by Bob Gibb) also included Walter Zobell, Wallace Stone, Nalder, John Jasiukiewicz, Doug West, Kieler, Hirsche, Monty Court, T Court.

        In the semis, the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cougars clipped the Edmonton Harry Ainlay Titans 55-48. The Titans led 15-10 after one quarter but the Cougars rallied to a 27-25 lead at the half. They extended their margin to 42-33 after three quarters and coasted to the win. Dennis Hydychuk paced the Cougars with 15. Randy Royer added 12, Peter Sikor 10 and Lyle Gallant 10. Rick Johnson paced the Titans with 21. Mark Smith added 12.

        In the other semi, the Edmonton Eastglen Blue Devils defeated the Calgary St. Francis Browns 77-58 as Wilf Harper scored 25.

        In the bronze medal match, the Edmonton Harry Ainlay Titans whipped the Calgary St. Francis Browns 90-61 after leading 41-32 at the half. Jerry Shockey paced the Titans with 22. Mark Smith added 15 and Bill Peterson 12, along with 33 boards. Rick Johnson added 13. Greg Grassick led the Browns with 21. The Browns also included Allan Ripplinger, Bill Takacs, Jerry Hamel, Tony Barbaro.

In the final, the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cougars defeated Edmonton Eastglen Blue Devils 54-28. The Cougars led 12-3, 15-7 and 36-20 at the quarters. They hit 17-22 from the floor in the second half as they took command, while Blue Devils Wilf Harper and Randy Royer found themselves in foul trouble. Peter Sikora paced the Cougars with 23. Calvin Poirier added 11 and Lyle Gallant 9. Scotty McEachern paced the Blue Devils with 9. The Cougars finished (27-4) on the season.
