In the semis, held in Edmonton, the Raymond Comets clocked the Edmonton Bonnie Doon Lancers 59-40. Comets coach Bob Gibb was disappointed. “It’s embarrassing the way we played tonight. Without a doubt it is the poorest game we have played this year. We continually gave the ball away and without controlling the backboards the way we did we could have been in trouble.” Phil Tollestrup paced the Comets with 22. Al Williams added 11, Tim Tollestrup 10 and Peter Hague 7. The Comets led 29-18 at the half. Don Squire paced the Lancers with 14. Bill Terry 13 and Don Kadatz 3.

        In the other semi, the Edmonton Victoria Composite Redmen dusted the Calgary Ernest Manning Griffins 64-53 as Dick Krentz scored 21, Ken Turnbull 18, Don Melnychuk 9 and Jack Schwarzberg 8. The Redmen led 16-1 after one quarter. Barrie Bennett paced the Griffins with 11.

        In the bronze medal match, the Edmonton Bonnie Doon Lancers whipped the Calgary Ernest Manning Griffins 63-30. The Griffins included Clark Sloan, Doug Van Gaalen, Gord Dunkley, Harry Campbell, Rob Tivy, Barrie Bennett, Jerry Baker.

In the final, the Edmonton Victoria Composite Redmen defeated the Raymond Comets 59-56 in overtime. Raymond had been (36-0) entering the final. The Comets led 25-24 at the half. The Redmen led 46-42 after three quarters. The Comets rallied to take the lead but Gus Harvey, who’d been a member of the Edmonton Ross Sheppard title team in 1963, drove for a layup and then Allan Melnychuk hit a pair of free throws as the Redmen took command. Dick Krentz paced the Redmen with 13. Jack Schwartzburg added 12, Ken Turnbull 10, Allan Melnychuk 10 and Bruce Wyley 8, while dominating the boards. Tim Tollestrup and Peter Hague each scored 14 to pace the Comets. Phil Tollestrup added 12. Redmen coach John Baker told the Edmonton Journal that “the idea was to press the Raymond guards as soon as they brought the ball into play, hoping they would turn the ball over on errors. My team sustained the pressure beautifully. It didn’t lose its poise once.”
