In the final, the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams defeated the Edmonton Bonnie Doon Lancers 55-49. The Lancers ripped off a late 8-0 run to take a 30-21 lead into the lockers. But the Rams rallied to a 41-37 lead after three quarters. The Lancers rallied to within 49-47 with 1:40 to play but Dick Lebeau, replacing Glen Alexander, who’d fouled out, hit a big bucket to stretch the lead. Gary Young and Bill Mucklow added insurance buckets in the final minute. The Rams hit 9-16 from the line, while the Lancers were 8-18. “They rattled us in that first half,” Rams coach Jim Whitelaw told the Lethbridge Herald. “But the kids buckled down in the final two quarters and played great basketball. They had it when the chips were down and, to me, that’s the mark of champions. This Edmonton club was tough and I think they could have won just as easily as they lost.
