The Islanders led by three at the half but succumbed to Montmorency’s full-court pressure in the second half. “We gave it our best shot,” John Abbott coach Lisen Moore told the Montreal Gazette. “But, in the end, Montmorency had more depth. We were never out of it really. With less than two minutes to go, we were only down five points.” John Abbott point guard Alison Schafer, who scored 12, called it “a tough one to lose. We played pretty well in the first half (and led 28-25) but we got boxed out in the second half and didn’t make good offensive choices. We seemed to lose our focus a bit. We knew we had to play our best for 40 minutes if we wanted to have any chance of beating Montmorency.” The Nomades also contained first-team all-star Claudia Brassard to a mere 10 points and 11 boards. Montmorency hit 24-38 from the line, while the Islanders were 9-14. Valerie Debigare led the Nomades with 16. Tournament MVP Roxane Corbeil and Veronique Pare each added 12.
