In the final, the John Abbott Lady Islanders nipped the top-seeded Ahuntsic Indiennes 65-64 to end the Indiennes hopes of a fourth consecutive crown. Alex Lawson paced the Islanders with a career-high 34. Claudia Brassard added 10, while Jennifer Stacey scored 10 and dished 12 assists. Islanders coach Lisen Moore told the Montreal Gazette that “Alex and Claudia, because of their physical size, allow us to play with anyone in the league. They’re two different types of players. Claudia is more versatile while Alex is more limited as a post player. But both are beginning to excel at their positions. … In our league, I feel the play of the guards makes a difference. As long as we get the ball to Alex or Claudia, they’ll finish and do the right things. Our guards did a good job of getting them the ball.” Ahuntsic led 39-35 at the half. The Indiennes rallied from a 65-52 deficit by scoring the game’s last 12 points but their rally fell just short. Marie-Helene Heroux paced the Indiennes with 12.
