In the semis, the Vanier Cheetahs defeated the Victoriaville Vulkins 67-51 after rallying from a 30-23 halftime deficit. Josee Deloretto paced the Cheetahs with 20, including 16 in the second half.
In the other semi, the top-seeded Ahuntsic Indiennes dumped the John Abbott Islanders 60-37 as Isabelle Bernier scored 13. Connie Chabot led the Islanders with 12.
In the bronze medal match, the John Abbott Islanders defeated the Victoriaville Vulkins 51-47 as Catherine Gallant scored 14, all from the line, on a 14-17 charity effort. Sophie Morin paced the Vulkins with 12. The Vulkins (coached by Leopold Roy) also included Carole Gagne, Yolaine Masse, Nathalie Defoy, Joselyn Bunge.
In the final, the Ahuntsic Indiennes captured their second straight title by defeating the Vanier Cheetahs 69-58. The Indiennes overcame a slow start and trailed 34-31 as coach Pierre Trudeau experimented with his line-up because of foul trouble and injuries. But they took command in the second half. Patricia Demers led Ahuntsic with 19 points. Vicky Tessier added 13. “Vicky Tessier was incomparable for us all year and again tonight,” Trudeau told the Montreal Gazette “And Isabelle Bouchard destroyed Vanier by herself in the second half with her all-around play.” Vanier coach Rick McBrien said “Ahuntsic is a great team. We gave it a great shot. I’m super proud of them.” Nadia Tarulli and Josee Deloretto led Vanier with 14 apiece.
