In the semis, the John Abbott Lady Islanders defeated the Maisonneuve Vikings 80-53.
In the other semi, the Ste. Foy Dynamiques upset the Ahuntsic Indiennes 57-56.
In the bronze medal match, the Ahuntsic Indiennes defeated the Maisonneuve Vikings 51-40.
In the final, the John Abbott Lady Islanders defeated the Ste. Foy Dynamiques 70-52. “The pressure is off now,” Islanders coach Lisen Moore told the Montreal Gazette. Tracey Hayman led John Abbott with 14, while 4-9 point guard Sophie Morin masterfully dictated the tempo and scored 12. Tournament MVP Brigitte Edwards and Linda Hazek each added 12. Marie-Anne Solasse led Ste. Foy with 17. Moore said the perimeter shot was available to Morin. “They gave her the outside shots. When you see the opening, you have to step in there and shoot and that’s what she did. Every shot she took was at the right time.” Moore added that Anne Archambault did a good defensive job on Solasse. “She got seven or nine points in the last three or four minutes when the outcome was settled.” Moore also credit Ste-Foy with a competitive match. “They sat in the middle to take away our inside game but we kept the tempo high. We pushed the ball up the court well. And when Ste-Foy tried to overload one side, Sophie would swing to the other side to create the opening inside.” John Abbott led 33-24 at the half and quickly their margin to 47-27 early in the second half. The Islanders lost Anita Cugliandro to a separated shoulder.
