In the semis, the John Abbott Islanders dispatched the Ahuntsic Indiennes x-x.

In the other semi, the Dawson Blues defeated the Vanier Cheetahs x-x.

In the bronze medal match, the Ahuntsic Indiennes edged the Vanier Lady Cheetahs 46-41. The Cheetahs (coached by Wayne Kidd) included Sharron St-Croix, Shaunda Walden.

In the final, the Dawson Blues thrashed the John Abbott Islanders 63-48. “We finally showed them but I don’t want to play John Abbott too often in one season,” Blues coach Rocco Buono told the Montreal Gazette. “But it was our day today.” Dawson broke to a 7-0 lead by generating turnovers with their pressure defence. The Islander didn’t score a field goal for seven minutes. Still, they rallied within 32-20 at the half. Tournament MVP Carolyn Assalian led Dawson with 25, including 15 in the first half. John Abbott British-born coach Chris Hunter said Assalian was a force. “She controlled the tempo of the ball game. She’s so quick. I think she’s one of the finest guards to come out of our league in recent years.” Dawson forced 35 turnovers with their pressure defence. “We never proved we could handle their press,” said Hunter. “They are a gifted bunch of athletes and they took away our strengths all game.” Pat Bynoe added 16 for Dawson, while Julieth Lewis notched 11. Julie Rousseau led John Abbott with 24.

After the season, Wayne Kidd announced his resignation at Vanier. He’d been at the helm since 1982 and at 29-years-of-age said it was time to pursue a master’s degree in either education or business. “I’ve been coaching for 11 years and it’s time for a change in my life,” Kidd told the Montreal Gazette. “I have a job (director of crime prevention at the Sun Youth Organization), I’m at school part-time and I’m coaching. I couldn’t do justice to all three. Something had to go.” Kidd’s team won two provincial bronze medals in his three years as coach.
