In the sixth annual provincial CEGEP champions (a nine-sport affair held over the course of a weekend), the John Abbott Islanders and Nord-Ouest represented the southwest region, while Nord-Ouest-Rouyn-Nouranda and Ste-Foy Dynamiques represented the Northeast region.
In the semis, the John Abbott Islanders defeated the Ste-Foy Dynamiques x-x. The Dynamiques included Genevieve Rail.
In the final, (according to the Montreal Gazette) the John Abbott Islanders dusted Nord-Ouest Rouyn-Nouranda 90-39 as Wendy Verrechia scored 18.
In March, 1978, the Quebec Basketball Federation organizes an official province-wide regular season league to be called the Quebec Collegiate Sports Federation (rather than having local associations conduct regular season and playoffs, and then having their representatives meet in Quebec City for provincial playoffs).
