Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec

Formerly the Federation des associations Sportives Collegiales du Quebec (or the Quebec Students Sports Federation).

Established in May/67.

By 1971, there were over 30 colleges d’enseignement general et professionel (C.E.G.E.P.) had opened. CEGEPS built from a reorganization of existing normal schools, classical colleges and technical institutes. The tuition-free colleges, of which there were 83 by 1995, offer a variety of programs. Before entering university, a student must complete college levels studies (similar to high school offering Grade 12 and 13 for university-oriented students and trade programs for others). The CEGEPs enroll more students, particularly women, and thus have a larger base from which to draw, leading to Quebec’s domination of the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association.
