In the semis, the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars stunned the regular season champ Dawson Blues 81-71.
In the other semi, the Montmorency Nomades defeated the Vanier Cheetahs 70-61.
In the bronze medal match, the Dawson Blues defeated the Vanier Cheetahs 84-75 as Hennsy Auriantal scored 31. David Rimple paced Vanier with 23.
In the final, the Montmorency Nomades defeated the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars 80-61. Despite playing without league leading scorer Bobby Miller, who tore his Achilles tendon in practice in the final month of the season, the Nomades quickly dispatched the Cougars as Didier Boucard scored 16 and grabbed 15 boards. Tournament MVP Anderson Pierre added 13, David Brownrigg 13, Marc-Kensy Clephart 11, and Pierre-Alex Bessette 10. Montmorency led 42-27 at the half and by as many as 21 in the second half. “We were outhustled. It’s as simple as that,” Cougars coach Don Caldwell told the Montreal Gazette. “They were ready to play us more than we were prepared to play them. They beat us on the boards and got into a full-court game which they love and which we try to avoid. We tried to take the ball inside but we failed to handle the pressure we faced and work around it. All the credit goes to Montmorency. They put us on the defensive even when we had the ball.” Nomades coach Guy Pariseau said his troops had been shell-shocked by Miller’s injury in the final three games of the season. “When Bobby went down, the team went down. Down to about as low as it could go. It took us a long time to get over it but we did because of the athletes we have and our ability to come together when we had to.” Robbie Dawson paced Lennoxville with 18. Graham Farmer added 16.
