In the semis, the Montmorency Nomades defeated the John Abbott Islanders 73-65.
In the other semi, the Dawson Blues clipped the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars 68-59.
In the bronze medal match, the John Abbott Islanders defeated the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars 87-72 as Dwayne Dear scored 14.
In the final, the Dawson Blues defeated the Montmorency Nomades 86-70 as Ricky Varisco scored 24, including five from beyond the arc. “Ricky’s been struggling with the three-pointers all year,” said Blues coach Olga Hrycak told the Montreal Gazette. “But he sure came through in the end and that doesn’t surprise me. He’s a great player.” Varisco said he practices 25 minutes on his three-point shooting before each Dawson practice. “I’ve also been fortunate to have great coaching. Nevio Marzinotto coached me for five years in high school and he’s the best high school coach around. And I’ve got another great coach here with Olga.” Sammy Mendolia did a masterful job of controlling the tempo, while scoring 14. Jomo Mofford notched 15, Cordell Walters 13 and Dan Furlong 10. F-Eric Elysee led Nomades with 16. M.K. Clephat and Carl Catin each scored 14, while 6-8 centre Bayonne Taty notched 8. Dawson trailed 8-0 early but rallied to a 47-35 lead at the half. Montmorency got no closer than seven in the second frame.
