In the semis, the 4th-seeded Vanier Cheetahs stunned the regular season champ Maisonneuve Vikings 68-66 as Robert McCloud hit two free throws with two seconds to play.
In the other semi, the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars defeated the Dawson Blues 65-57. The Blues included Chris Francis.
In the bronze medal match, the Maisonneuve Vikings edged the Dawson Blues 80-74.
In the final, the Vanier Cheetahs defeated the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars 75-73 as Francis John scored 28 and Pierre Tibblin 22. The Cougars led 38-33 at the half. Cheetahs coach Keith Coffin told the Montreal Gazette that “our immediate goal was to make the playoffs. If there was one common denominator in Friday night’s game, and Saturday’s, it’s that we didn’t give up. In the Lennoxville game, we were down by 14 (in the first half) and we didn’t give up. Friday, we were down by five with 38 seconds left and we rallied again. That’s society’s definition of a winner, I guess. … And Pierre Tibblin has started to play like he invented the game in our last six games.” Vikings coach Jean-Guy Morin told the Montreal Gazette that “in this league a 6-9 record means nothing. They lost so many games by two or three points.”
