In the Montreal city semis, the John Abbott Islanders stunned the Vanier Cheetahs x-x. Vanier (coached by John Courcoulacos) included Kevin Dogen, Keith Coffin, Tim Henry, Walt Smigielski, Howard Fox.

In the other semi, the Dawson Blues dispatched Maissoneuve x-x. Maissoneuve included Steve Clark.

In the Montreal city finals, the John Abbott Islanders dispatched the Dawson Blues 84-59 as Alex Jeanty scored 22 and Jamie Crawford 20. The Islanders led 27-24 at the half. Harley Lawrence paced the Blues with 18. Clairmont Burgess added 11.

In the sixth annual provincial CEGEP champions (a nine-sport affair held over the course of a weekend), the John Abbott Islanders and Dawson Blues represented the southwest region, while the Lennoxville Cougars and Trois-Rivières Diablos represented the Northeast region.

        In the final, the Dawson Blues defeated the John Abbott Islanders 61-49 as Harvey Lawrence scored 22.

        In March, 1978, the Quebec Basketball Federation organizes an official province-wide regular season league to be called the Quebec Collegiate Sports Federation (rather than having local associations conduct regular season and playoffs, and then having their representatives meet in Quebec City for provincial playoffs).
