In the final, the Briercrest Bible Clippers nipped the Canadian Bible College Rise 79-77 as Carlton Haak scored 16, Les Sillars 19 and George Hoogeveen 16. Haak told the Regina Leader-Post that “God does it for us. It’s also called luck, hard work and teamwork.” The Clippers trailed 39-24 in the first half and 45-39 at the half but rallied to within five after coach Stan Peters called a timeout, pointed to his head and said “that’s our problem. Four or five times we’ve had a chance to pull within four, and we haven’t. Let’s think about that.” Peters said “the keys to their team are Wegren and (point guard) Rick Strangway. We pressured and trapped Strangway all game because he runs their offence and we wanted to wear him out … I had a peaceful feeling about this game. I knew if we were within 10 at halftime, we’d be alright.” Rise coach Joel Janzen said the overwhelming that hurt us was the mental aspect. We thought we could blow them out early. And it looked that way for a while. But they never quit.” Grant Silvester paced the Rise with 35. Doug Wegren added 20.
