Capilano coach Paul Chiarenza said “it’s no secret that UNBC was our only blemish this year. We made some adjustments this week in practice and defensively we played as well as we have all year. Jen Bodnar was huge tonight, she got us going early while Franz found her game and Jen Palma for a rookie played (UNBC’s) Christine Kennedy extremely well knowing how good of a player she is.” UNBC coach Rachel Hulme said “Capilano was well prepared. We have had a lot of success with high low and they managed that very well. They came out and had some early success that put us on our heels, we battled hard and unfortunately Capilano managed to hit some key shots which kept us at a distance. Christine Kennedy for a 5th year player was a real competitor and leader. I am very proud of her and the entire team as they followed Kennedy’s lead when we were down 22 by competing as though the game was tied and never giving up.” Jessica Franz paced Capilano with 24 on 8-14 from the floor, 1-1 from the arc, 5-7 from the line, 15 boards, 2 assists and 4 steals. Timberwolves coach Rachel Hulme said “playing for third is hard after losing the semi-final. It really seems like the team with the most heart wins as no wants to play for bronze instead of gold. I asked my 5th year players if they wanted to end their season and careers on a win and they responded very well and the rest of the team stepped up and supported this. VIU is a solid team and have very strong players, which we had to be very prepared for. Today’s result was clearly a showing of the team that wanted to win more. Kennedy again was a defensive star hold Gromme in check with only 10 points. Kennedy has been a real active, almost annoying player to all the opponents all year. Our success has a great deal to do with her strong intense defense and team leadership.” Jenn Knibbs paced Northern British Columbia with 14 on 3-4 from the floor, 2-3 from the arc, 2-3 from the line, 2 boards and 4 steals.
