In the quarterfinals, the 4th-seeded Capilano Blues clipped the 5th-seeded Douglas Royals 83-74. The Blues’ Graddy Zubaidi was unstoppable in the post and Brendan Bailey’s sharp shooting led to a 23-10 advantage at the end of the first. The Royals limited their turnovers and attacked the offensive boards to narrow the lead to 39-27 at the half. In the physical third quarter, the Blues extended their lead over the Royals to 62-44 after three quarters. The score was knotted at 82 after regulation. The Blues took a 17-point lead in the first half but the Kermodes rallied on the marksmanship of Mike West. Brendan Bailey hit back-to-back treys as the Blues regained a double-digit lead in the third quarter. West scored eight straight to draw the Kermodes within five with seven minutes to play. Blues forward Graddy Zubaidi found a weakness in the Kermodes defense and continued to drive and draw the foul repeatedly to keep the lead for the Blues. But Dallas Searles hit a pair of treys for the Kermodes to force overtime. Bailey hit a long two and converted a beautiful left-handed drive to score five quick points and give the Blues an 86-82 early in overtime. Martin Bogajev converted a tough drive and got fouled to give the Blues a 90-83 lead with two minutes left in overtime. Theo VandenEkart hit a huge three and drove the lane to get fouled with 40 seconds to play to give the Kermodes their first lead of the game 91-90.
