In the quarterfinals, the Langara Falcons defeated the University of Northern BC Timberwolves 78-74 as Corey Ogilvie scored 18 and Mark Tasic 16. Rick Pridmore grabbed 9 boards, while Ogilvie had 6 assists. Dana Larsen led Northern BC with 20 points and 10 boards. Kent Bergstrom scored 17. The Timberwolves (coach Reg Carrick, assistant Brad Hann, manager Shannon Blank, athletic director Len McNamara) also included Joel Beauchamp, Raju Korotana, Dean Whalen, Tone Stakes, Ted Cowley, Mike Davis, Curtis Holoboff, Bruce Muir, Brent Sevigny, Neil Hogan and Brad Leroux.
In the other quarterfinal, the Okanagan Lakers defeated the Douglas Royals 59-54 as Jeremy Luypen scored 24 and grabbed 8 boards. Jason Byers added 10 points for the Lakers, while Drew Lejback had 3 assists. Sean Velassco led Douglas with 16 points. Neil Morrison added 12 points and 12 boards. The Royals (coached by David Munro, assistant Sean Ramjagsingh, manager Stu Hietbrink, manager Benjamin Lee, athletic director Lou Rene Legge) also included Hamed Nazzorisedeh, Michael Leslie, Terry Neufeld, Morgan Watt, Nathan Nottingham, Jim Martin, Daniel Elliott, Craig Rettie, Kan Dahia, Bill Fraser, Brian McLennan and Karol Rowsinski.
In the semis, the Langara Falcons stunned the Fraser Valley Cascades 87-76 as Justin Adams scored 25 and Mark Tasic 23. Tasic added 10 boards, while Ross Naka had 10 assists. Bryson Tiedeman led Fraser Valley with 15 points. Jamie Armstrong added 14, along with 13 boards, and Aaron Wells 13. Cascades coach Pat Lee told Canadian Press “it was just one of those nights when we came out and didn’t shoot well.”
In the other semi, the Thompson Rivers Sun Demons thrashed the Okanagan Lakers 88-60 as Ryan Porter scored 20 and grabbed 15 boards. Curt Dale added 15 points for the Sun Demons, while Lucas Cockburn had 7 assists. Jeremy Luypen had 13 points and 11 boards for Okanagan. Neil Chicoine also scored 13 for the Lakers.
In the bronze medal match, the Fraser Valley Cascades clipped the Okanagan Lakers 87-74 as Jamie Armstrong scored 21 and Logan Kitteringham 15. The Lakers (coach Jeff Strother, assistant Jon Williams, manager Willian Meade, athletic director Rob Johnson) included Drew Lejbak, Kalen Ellert, Chris Gustafson, Ehren Lee, Rusty May, Neil Chicoine, Tyler Sookarow, Jason Byers, Liam Cole, Quentin Thiessen, Jeremy Luypen and Adrian Walsh.
In the final, the Thompson Rivers Sun Demons defeated the Langara Falcons 81-76 as Andrew Roy scored 17. Tournament MVP Ryan Porter added 16 and 9 boards for the Sun Demons while Skye Buck had 7 assists. The team didn’t play its best game against the Falcons, Sun Demons coach Nevin Gleddie told Kamloops This Week. “Sometimes you have to win the ugly ones. We gave them some opportunities to shoot when we shouldn’t have but, in the second half, we clamped down. We knuckled down when we had to and made the shots when we had to.” Mark Tasic and Justin Adams each scored 19 for Langara. Corey Ogilvie had 10 boards for Langara.
