In the semis, the Douglas Royals defeated the Cariboo Chiefs (now the Thompson Rivers Sun Demons) 101-66; 66-71; 85-63 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… In game two, Cariboo prevailed 71-66 as Richard Gauthier scored 20. …………………………………………………… In game three, the Royals prevailed 85-63 despite playing getting limited minutes from their star 6-11 post Chris Vandermark, who’d sprained an ankle in practice. “We played well for a half,” Chiefs coach Jerry Karpiuk told Kelowna This Week. “But we just basically ran out of gas. We didn’t have the horses to go with them all game.” Karpiuk said his troops were victimized by “occasional runs in the second half,” and that the absence of All-Canadian Chris Vandermark actually benefited the Royals. “They didn’t play well when he was in the game,” but with Vandermark out of the line-up, “they put quicker guys in and that’s what probably hurl us. When he was in the game, it kind of took away their quickness.” The Chiefs also included Rich Gauthier.

In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Trinity Western Spartans defeated the Malaspina Mariners 71-84; 88-79; 68-61 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… In game one, host Malaspina prevailed 84-71 as Brett Nohr scored 21, Cory Klassen 20, Kevin Jangula 17 and Cam Isenor 10. Klassen told the Nanaimo Daily News that “we came out flat at first. (Defence) was the emphasis. We knew they were quicker and that they were a lot bigger. It took us a while to get going under the boards. I guess a lot of guys weren’t used to getting bounced around and getting hit. After a few reaming out sessions from coach Simpson, we started to get the point.” Trinity Western shot .350 from the floor. Paul Chaffee led the Spartans with 18, Jason Kinlock 11 and Jason Wubs 11. Spartans coach Tim Teer said “I thought Brett Nohr was the key guy for them. I don’t remember him missing many. We tried to get out on him too.” …………………………………………………… In game two, host Trinity Western evened the series with an 88-79 win as Paul Chaffee scored 22 and Jason Wubs 21 and Jason Kinlock 18. …………………………………………………… In game three, Trinity Western took the series with a 68-60 win over host Malaspina as Paul Chaffee scored 20, Jason Wubs 14, Jason Kinloch 12, Dave Downey 11, Plenkovich 7, Randy Ellis 3 and Mike Morgan 2. Cory Klassen paced the Mariners with 16. Kevin Jangula added 11, Brett Nohr 9, Liam Sullivan 6, Cam Isenor 6, Leighton 5, Tony Bryde 5 and Ed Mulrooney 2. Mariners coach Tim Teer told the Nanaimo Daily News that “we came out real good and played good defence but I guess if I had to sum it up, it was Chaffee. He was just so tough.” Klassen said “Chaffee was god-like. … He campe to play. That was it.”
