The Bruins led 20-15 after one quarter and 35-33 at the half. The Lords led 61-49 after three quarters. The Bruins trailed by as many as 16 before rallying late to make the final score respectable.  They had drawn within 4 but missed a pair from the line and the Lords responded with a late 8-0 run, including a pair of treys from Maddie Dender, to ice the win. “That’s the microcosm of our season really,” Bruins coach Willie Delas said. “There are a handful of games that come to mind where if we could have put together a 40-minute effort, the result could have been much different. Tonight we really struggled from 3-point range and if we had shot even a mildly respectable percentage, it could have been a whole different ball game in the fourth quarter. … We’re certainly not satisfied with being knocked out of the playoffs on day one, but we took some steps in the right direction.         In the quarterfinals, hosted by Humber in Etobicoke, the Mohawk Mountaineers dispatched the Seneca Sting 71-57 after leading 19-13, 27-25 and 45-41 at the quarters. The Sting ripped off a 7-0 run to take a lead in the second quarter but Shanien O’Neill rallied the Mountaineers back into the lead at the half. Chuot Angou scored 13 on 3-14 from the floor, 0-3 from the arc, 7-7 from the line, 4 boards and 2 assists. Mikhaila Wright added 10 on 4-13 from the floor, 2-7 from the arc, 6 boards, 2 assists and 3 blocks. Claire Dechet added 6 on 2-12 from the floor, 0-3 from the arc, 2-2 from the line and 4 boards. Kaleigh Morris notched 2 on 1-3 from the floor and 5 boards. Maddy Kielar scored 2 on 1-8 from the floor, 3 boards and 2 steals. Sydney Kendellen added 1 on 0-5 from the floor, 0-2 from the arc, 1-2 from the line, 4 boards and 3 assists, while Haly Hawkins, Hody Elkholy and Taylor Evans were scoreless. The Falcons hit 20-70 (.286) from the floor, 2-15 (.133) from the arc and 12-13 (.923) from the line, while garnering 52 boards, including 11 on the offensive glass, 9 assists, 5 steals, 5 blocks, 20 turnovers and 14 fouls.

The all-tournament team featured MVP Ceejay Nofuente (Humber); Ali Vlasman (Fanshawe); Mikhaila Wright (Fanshawe); Leticia Lopez (Humber); Aleena Domingo (Humber); Shanien O’Neill (Mohawk); and Mary Ingribelli (Niagara).

        After the season, Andrew Broeren resigns as coach at Georgian, citing an expanding family as the reason for his departure. He is replaced by assistant Todd Talbot, who was also coach of the the Next Level basketball program and the IEM basketball program out of Newmarket.

        Willie Delas resigns after six years at the Sheridan helm and is replaced by assistant Sean Douglas. He began his coaching career in 2009 as an assistant coach for the Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School boys team and for Robert J. Lee Public School as the coach of the boys and girls teams. Prior to that, he played five years for the Bruins.

        Gary Cormier replaces Nicolas Caron at the helm of the Sault Cougars. Caron had been at the helm for four years. Cormier was a phys ed teacher with the Algoma District School Board in Sault Ste. Marie for more than 30 years.

        Jesse VanHouwelingen replaces Rob Hooper at the helm of the Redeemer Royals. VanHouwelingen toiled 23 games for the Royal’s men’s program from 2001-03.
