In the quarterfinal crossovers, the Humber Hawks (East 1st) thrashed the Niagara Knights (West 4th) 87-61. The Mohawk Mountaineers (West 2nd) whipped the Durham Lords (East 3rd) 73-51. The Lords (coached by Craig Andrews) included Claire Baillie, Bonnie Slaughter, Nicole Moore, Deanna Baird, Lindsay Gronross, Christina Vittorio, Lindsay Garbatt, Angela Cull, Krista Mustard, Christina Pinnock, Natalie Davy, Sarah Fincham, Tina Robinson, Sadie Bulger, Lisa Gauthier and Sherry Thurston.

The St. Clair Saints (West 1st) dumped the George Brown Huskies (East 4th) 51-32 despite committing 21 turnovers in the second half and drawing the wrath of coach Linda Carriere. The Huskies had closed to within 33-24 in the second half after the Saints committed turnovers on seven consecutive possessions. Raquel Burke paced the Saints with 17 points and 9 boards. “It was ugly but it was effective. They played really good defence against us. No other team in our division puts that kind of pressure on us.” Huskies guard Kim Redhead said her team’s second half pressure “got them out of their game a bit but we got tired doing it.” St. Clair led 30-14 at the half. Tina Sirka added 12 points and 7 boards for St. Clair, while Rinjus Chibani scored 9. Anna Russell led George Brown with 12. In the last quarterfinal, the Fanshawe Falcons (West 3rd) thrashed the Seneca Sting (East 2nd) 60-40. In the semis, held at Durham College, the Humber Hawks crushed the Mohawk Mountaineers 73-54. Miranda Pyette was chosen player of the game for Humber, while Melanie Sing earned the laurels for the Mountaineers. Pyette paced the Hawks with 23 on 8-18 from the floor, 0-1 from the arc, 7-11 from the line and 16 boards. In the final, the Humber Hawks dumped St. Clair Saints 83-66. The Hawks hit their first seven shots as they exploded to a 14-4 lead and were never threatened. “We went on a great run,” Hawks forward Suzanne Higgs told The Coven. “I’ve never had that happen before. … Our defence was amazing. Altogether, I think we played a really good game.” Saints coach Linda Carriere said “I wasn’t surprised by the start they got because you could see that they were ready to play. They’ve been here before and have a good starting five. Experience is important when you’re playing for an Ontario title and they’ve got it.” St. Clair committed 19 turnovers in the first half as Humber built a 56-29 lead at the half. The Hawks shot 21-29 from the floor in the first half and 50 per cent from the arc. “We just didn’t come out to play,” said Saint guard Tina Sirka. “We were lazy, tired and slow. That was the difference.” The Saints twice rallied to within 14 in the second half but could draw no closer. Elaine Morrison was chosen player of the game for the Hawks, while Tina Sirka earned the laurels for the Saints. Lindsay Higgs paced the Hawks with 18 on 7-9 from the floor and 4-4 from the line.
