        In the quarterfinals, the 3rd-seeded Fanshawe Falcons defeated the 6th-seeded Georgian Grizzlies x-x. The Grizzlies included Crystal Kort, Georgina Hosie, Nicole Garon, Tania Visneskie, Kerri Rumble, Tara Tripney, Kristen Jennings, Bobbie McNairn, Teresa Hoffer, Jileen Hurtubise, Stephanie Delaurier, Carrie Hayden and Carolyn Krush.

In the other quarterfinal, the 5th-seeded Seneca Scouts dumped the 4th-seeded Durham Lords 72-47. The Lords were completely undone when starters Sarah John and Angela Wilson fouled out. Lords assistant Mary Skribe told the Durham Chronicle “we let the person on the point of their zone intimidate us, which took our heads right out of the game. … their shots were on, ours weren’t, bottom line.” Coach Craig Andrews said “our team was definitely intimidated by Tanesha (McKenzie’s) defence. The only time we seemed tentative was against that player. She’s a great player who can run and jump like crazy.” The Lords also included Tina Robinson, Bonnie Slaughter, Lindsay Gronross, Amy Duncan, Elizabeth Armstrong, Melanie Sodtka, Krista Mustard, Janine Henderson and Tanja Jarvis.

        In the semis, held at Hamilton’s Mohawk College, the top-seeded Humber Hawks defeated 5th-seeded Seneca Sting 69-52. Brenda Chambers was chosen player of the game for the Hawks, while Vanette Graham earned the laurels for the Scouts. Chambers led the Hawks with 19. Beth Latendresse added 18, Lindsay Higgs 14, Filomena Aprile 9, Elaine Morrison 4, Natalie Wood 3 and Denise Marshall 2. Graham paced the Sting with 21. Aisha Croxen-Moncrieffe added 14, Tanesha McKenzie 12, Julie Ulacco 4 and Naomi Mullings 2. Seneca ripped off an 8-0 run to take a 12-10 lead but the Hawks answered with 5-0 and 6-0 runs to take a 30-28 lead at the half. They added 10-0, 4-0, 5-0 and 8-0 runs in the second half and coasted to the win. “In the second half, we started to dominate, especially in the last five minutes,” coach Denise Perrier told The Coven. “We were finishing our baskets and Seneca weren’t getting back in time. I thought the girls played really well and everyone on the bench was pumped. It’s a relief to get it off your back. Now it’s just one more game.”

        In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Mohawk Mountaineers defeated the 3rd-seeded Fanshawe Falcons 55-53. Jayme Green was chosen player of the game for the Mountaineers, while Jocelyn Getsinger earned the laurels for the Falcons. Green led the Mountaineers with 23. Christa Gardner added 16, Melanie Sing 9, Marlene Cabral 9 and Maria Stangherline 4. Getsinger paced the Falcons with 11. Brenda Rhodes added 10, Kathleen Park 10, Tanisha Allen 9, Abby Gallacher 9 and Becky Seldon 4.

        In the bronze medal match, the Seneca Scouts defeated the Fanshawe Falcons 87-78. Tanisha McKenzie was chosen player of the game for the Scouts, while Kimberley (Becky) Seldon earned the laurels for the Falcons. McKenzie paced the Scouts with 22. Vanette Graham added 21, A Croxen-Moncrieffe 17, Naomi Mullings 11, Nadine England 4, Julie Ulacco 2 and Katie Dann 1. Kathleen Park led the Falcons with 20. Tanisha Allen added 19, Seldon 16, Brenda Rhodes 15, Jocelyn Getsinger 7, Jennifer Goossens 7, Abby Gallacher 3 and Janet Culliton 2. The Falcons also included Dawn Master, Christie Gonske, Lindsay Jackson, Yarrow Viets, Stephanie Barnard, Jacqueline Boudreau, Michaila Larson and Lindsay Harkins.

        In the final, the Humber Hawks defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 59-54 in overtime. Elaine Morrison was chosen player of the game for the Hawks, while Melanie Sing earned the laurels for the Mountaineers. Morrison paced the Hawks with 16. Brenda Chambers added 12, Beth Latendresse 12, Filomena Aprile 10, Natalie Wood 4, Lindsay Higgs 2 and Jennifer Gilchrist 2. Sing and Jayme Greer each scored 13 to pace the Mountaineers. Suzanne Miller added 10, Christa Gardner 9, Marlene Cabral 7 and Shannon Hall 2. Humber broke to a 7-2 lead by the Mountaineers answered with a 14-0 run to take a 16-8 lead. The score was knotted at 29 at the half. The Hawks elevated their defensive intensity in the second half but built a 48-44 lead. The Sting answered with a 6-0 run before Brenda Chambers drove the lane in the final seconds and drew a foul. She hit both free throws to knot the score at 50 after regulation. The Hawks repeatedly scored in transition in the extra session to pull out the win. “All I have to say is, ‘wow’,” coach Denise Perrier told the Coven.
