       In the quarterfinals, the Mohawk Mountaineers dispatched the St. Clair Saints 58-50 as Debbie Reasen scored 20 and Melinda Coker 16. Saints coach Dan Russell told the Windsor Star that “we were too overly aggressive and it cost us,” having lost Brenda Mullins, Colleen Bessett and Karen Clarke to fouls down the stretch. Brenda Mullins paced the Saints with 17. Heather Jorgenson added 12 and Colleen Bessette 10. The Saints (coached by Russell) also included Diane Banda, Carolyn Gibb, Paula McCormick, Janet Gibson, Lisa Mantha, Suzie Moroz and Cheryl Adoranti.

       In the other quarterfinal, the George Brown Huskies dumped the Centennial Colts 61-55. The Colts included Marcis Passley, Mary Lioumanis, Wendy Kostashuk, Judith Thomas, Denise Herley, Sandra Sealy, Jacqueline Reid, Christine Pointer, Donna Schilkie, Anna Lamanna, Andrea Taylor and Vicki Schulatman.

       In the semis, held at Hamilton’s Mohawk College, the Fanshawe Falcons dusted the George Brown Huskies 60-39 as Kim Davis scored 14, Maria Colizza 10 and Theresa Colizza 10. Saskia Vriend paced the Huskies with 9.

In the other semi, the Niagara Knights edged the host Mohawk Mountaineers 67-62 as Vincent scored 16, DeMarco 14, Judy Helstab 13, Partington 10 and Nancy Mather 4. The Knights trailed 49-36 when diminutive guards Paula Vincent, Roseanne DiMarco and Vicki Partington turned into a buzzsaw and triggered a 23-0 run off a host of Mohawk turnovers. Mohawk rallied to with 63-62 before Vincent and DiMarco iced the win at the line. Partington told the Hamilton Spectator that “I think they were over-confident. They had articles in the newspaper saying they wouldn’t have any trouble beating us. They didn’t even think it would be close. Maybe that’s why we were able to dig down and find something extra in the second half. We really wanted to take them.” Melinda Coker led the Mountaineers with 22. Debbie Rensen added 16, Theresa Kay 12 and Kerry Dixon 11.

       In the bronze medal match, the Mohawk Mountaineers defeated the George Brown Huskies 58-56 as Debbie Rensen hit the winning jumper at the buzzer. Rensen told the Hamilton Spectator that “I was just hoping to draw a foul.” Rensen led the Mountaineers with 18. Melinda Coker added 14, Kerry Dixon 7 and Theresa Kay 7. The Huskies included Ria Bahadursingh, Saskia Vriend, Jennifer Russell, Stephanie Crump, Anne Creelman, Julie Sutton, Charmaine Edwards, T Przybyszewski, Tess Viner, Sandy Edmund, Ronnie Cheung, Peg Billingsley, Cinda Moore, Iva Zimmel, Sherma Charles, Cheryl Boudreay, Darlene Cull and Heather Black.

       In the final, the Fanshawe Falcons nipped the Niagara Knights 54-53 as Theresa Colizza hit a jumper from near midcourt as time expired. The Falcons led 30-26 at the half and by eight with three minutes to play but the Knights trimmed the margin to 53-52 with 13 seconds to play. Colizza led the Falcons with 17. Maria Colizza added 16, Lisa Hutchinson 14 and Kim Davis 7. Falcons coach Peter Campbell told the St. Catharines Standard that “no, we don’t practice that shot (Colizza’s bomb). I’m glad it was her, she deserved it. She and her sister are the heart of our team.” Judy Helstab led the Knights with 22. Paula Vincent added 8, Vicki Partington 7, Roseanne DeMarco 7 and Nancy Mather 5. Mather said “I must have missed 20 shots from under the hoop. … If one goes in, we’re the champs.” Knights coach Rus Stevenson said “I feel bad for the girls. They really worked hard and to come so close and just miss it.”

Georgian and Conestoga are technically not full members but their results count in the standings. They conduct an independent playoff for the right to enter the Tier II tournament. Georgian defeats Conestoga 40-29, 28-18 (2g-0). The Condors included Sue Cockburn, Shelley Wonch, Donna Schwartz, Ruth O’Connell, Rose Bublitz, Deb Vries, Kathy Cece, Valerie Martin, Carol Connor and Ingrid Kromm.

       In the semis, the Humber Hawks dumped the host St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings 41-35.

       In the other semi, the Durham Lords edged the Georgian Grizzlies 39-33.

       In the bronze medal match, the Georgian Grizzlies defeated the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings 33-27. The Vikings included Angela Bull, Carolyn Gorham, Patty O’Neil, Darla Moore; Sheila Branchaud, Jane Quilty, Karen Roberts, Christi Crozier and Sara Winfield.

       In the final, the Durham Lords defeated the Humber Hawks 55-20.
