The score was knotted at 40 after regulation. Cathy Schmidt paced the Saints with 12. Mary Peltier added 10, Patti Sovran 8, Andrea Allen 7, Lynda Campbell 6 and Maureen McCrow 6. Karen Kimmins led the Mountaineers with 11.

Hawks coach Mary Lou Dresser told The Coven that “a moving offence and ball control” proved the difference. Linda Jolie paced the Hawks with 22. Sheila Devin added 8 and Donna Redford 8. George Brown led 30-9 at the half. Hawks coach Mary Lou Dresser told The Coven that “we were up against the zone defence and were not tall enough to crack it. Also the team didn’t rebound or didn’t break fast to catch George Brown down the field.” Diane Pritchard led the Huskies with 16. Sue Boreau added 13. Linda Jolie led the Hawks with 24.

In the North division playoffs, CEGEP Rouyn-Nouranda defeated the Canadore Panthers x-x; x-x; 49-19 (3g-0). The Panthers (coached by Gary Lumsden) included Karen Amlin, Nancy Dewey, Leona Jeffries, Kelly Koselek.

        In the provincial semis, held at Windsor’s St. Clair College, the George Brown Huskies defeated the Algonquin Thunder 62-28 as Diane Pritchard scored 14, Huber 14, Sue Boudreau 9, Harrison 8, Mary Boyd 6, Freiburger 4, Langevin 4, Van Helvoort 2 and Criss 1.

        In the other semi, the host St. Clair Saints nipped CEGEP Rouyn-Noranda 48-46. Andrea Allen hit a field goal to give the Saints a 42-40 lead with five minutes to play before leaving the floor because of an injury. Judy Wachna added a field goal. Clair Mazulelli responded with a bucket for Rouyn-Noranda but Lynda Campbell answered with a bucket. Denise Lachappelle and Francine Charlebois notched runouts off the press but St. Clair held on for the win. The score was knotted at 22 at the half. Cathy Schmidt led the Saints with 15. Andrea Allen added 13, Lynda Campbell 9, June Wachna 5, Mary Peltier 4 and Maureen McKrow 2. Francine Charlebois led Rouyn-Noranda with 17. Claire Mazulelli added 10, Denise Lachapelle 8, Diane Boisvert 6, Diane Niemenin 4 and Turpin 1. McAlpine led the Thunder with 12. Cheryl Loyst added 10, Paquette 4, Girard 1 and Aubin 1.

        In the bronze medal match, CEGEP Rouyn-Noranda dumped the Algonquin Thunder 38-23 as Diane Boisvert scored 10, Francine Charlebois 9, Turpin 7, Denise Lachappelle 4, Claire Mazulelli 4 and Lamarche 4. Aubin led the Thunder with 8. Cheryl Loyst added 7, Lachance 4, McAlpine 2 and Girard 2.

        In the final, the George Brown Huskies thrashed the St. Clair Saints 49-28 to capture their second consecutive crown. St. Clair took an early 6-2 lead but their offence stalled and George Brown moved ahead 24-10 at the half. Sue Boudreau paced George Brown with 19. Mary Boyd added 16, Diane Pritchard 10 and Huber 5. The Huskies hit 15-19 from the line. Mary Pelletier led St. Clair with 10. Cathy Schmidt added 7, Andy Allen 6, Lynda Campbell 2 and June Wachna 1. The Saints hit 12-61 from the floor and 2-10 from the line. Saints coach John Martel told the Windsor Star that “all I can say is that it was a terrible time for our shooting to desert us. … It was the first time we’ve been below 30% all season and maybe we were a little tight.”
