In the final, the Seneca Sting dispatched the Humber Hawks 74-63. The Sting led 21-19 after one quarter. The Hawks led 38-35 at the half. The Sting led 56-52 after three quarters. Sting forward Nabil Ibrahim earned player of the game laurels for Seneca after hitting a pair of treys down the stretch to ice the win. The Sting’s quickness and speed proved the Hawks undoing. DeQuon Cascart was chosen player of the game for the Hawks. Yusuf Ali paced the Sting with 32 on 12-21 from the floor, 4-7 from the arc, 4-8 from the line, 9 boards and 2 assists. Nabil Ibrahim added 13 on 5-13 from the floor, 3-9 from the arc and 6 boards. Jordan Anderson added 8 on 2-4 from the floor, 1-2 from the arc, 3-4 from the line, 5 boards and 3 assists. The all-tournament team featured MVP Yusuf Ali (Seneca); Khalil Miller (Seneca); Rayvon Higdon (Redeemer); Jemol Edwards (Sheridan); Kenny Ejim (Humber); and C.J. Bennett (Humber).
After the season, Jason Grant (departs/turfed?) at George Brown. He is replaced by Peter Sambu, former coach at SAIT for four seasons, an assistant at Division-I Juco North Dakota State College of Science and the Gary Steelheads of the USBL, and coach of Kings University of Edmonton. In his first season, Sambu went 16-4, made an ACAC final four appearance and was named ACAC Coach of the Year. He then spent two years as head coach of the Lakeland Rustlers men’s team going a combined 38-2 in regular season play, and in his second year with the program finishing the regular season as the top-ranked program in the country after going an undefeated 20-0. He spent spent the 2017-18 season with the Olds Broncos women’s basketball team, going 15-6.
Niagara, who’d been coached by interim appointment Mike Hurley, hires assistant Phil Mosley to head the Knights. He’d been coach at Welland Centennial for the previous nine campaigns. He also served a two-year stint as coach of the Niagara women from 2004 to 2006. Mosley competed for the Knights from 1981 to 1983, and is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University.
Interim Humber coach Patrick Au resigns and is replaced by assistant Samson Downey, who played five seasons for the Hawks, capturing the 2005 provincial championship. He became an assistant with Humber in 2014.
