In the other semi, Northern-Kirkland Lake edged the Canadore Panthers 76-72.

In the bronze medal match, the Canadore Panthers dumped the Durham Lords 77-73. Panthers coach Pete Topolie told the Durham Chronicle “this is the first time this college has ever been in the OCAA championship basketball series and the college is 25-years-old. To finish third in the province is a tribute to the work of these kids because after our first five games we were 1-4 and we made the playoffs and we ended up third and we’ve won the bronze medal. That’s a lot to build on for next year.”

In the final, Northern-Kirkland Lake clipped the Loyalist Lancers 72-63. Dave Barkwell scored a combined 56 points for the Huskies in two games. Stephen Wright scored a combined 35 and Jim Cadieux 8. Barkwell told the Durham Chronicle that “the guys played really well this weekend. Stephen (Wright) helped us, the big guy under the boards. The coach did a super job. It was just a team effort.” Huskies coach Leo Bechard said, “first of all I want to congratulate Loyalist because they played a super game. Being back by 16, I’m sure they would have given up, but that’s the kind of team they are. They’ve come back all year long. The guy (Roy Gane) got coach of the year and it was well deserved. I can only praise their players, they played a super game and as for my guys, I can’t say any more than they are the best team in the 0CAA Tier II basketball championships.”
