In the south division final, the Mohawk Mountaineers clipped the St. Clair Saints 125-75 as Dave Will scored 24, Henry Romanowski 20, Dewitt Hanna 18, Larry Snaidero 17, Jim Armstrong 11, Rimas Sakalas 8, Ralph Gruppe 8, Glen Smith 4 and Jim Simpson 2. Gary Lauzon paced St. Clair with 18. Tom Murphy added 14, Dan Thoms 13, Bill Graham 10, Ron Shanbom 7, Paul Rutakyj 5, Boyd 4, Mickey Tomicic 2 and Kisil 2. The Saints (coach Hoffman, manager Maynard, manager Wallace, manager Essery) also included Wayne Gelinas, Murphy, Shadd and Mallatt.
In the provincial semis, the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings edged the Seneca Braves 72-68 as Ted Batchelor scored 21, Dave Wilson 11, Henry Lukassen 9, Bill McArthur 9, Dave Kennedy 6 and Larry Haunts 6. The Vikings led 31-25 at the half. Vikings coach Mort Morris told the Kingston Whig-Standard that “it was just a case of nerves. We settled down at half-time.” Rick Morandini led the Braves with 17. Dexter Johnston added 10, Bob Ross 9, Tom Skene 8, Tom Klamas 6, Mike MacMahon 5 and Tom Richardson 3.
In the other semi, the Mohawks Mountaineers torched the Cambrian-Sault Ste. Marie Cougars 99-66. Barry Burmaster led the Cougars with 16.
In the bronze medal match, the Seneca Braves edged the Cambrian-Sault Ste. Marie Cougars 63-57. Richard Seccariccia paced the Cougars with 20. Leon Thompson added 16. The Cougars (coached by Tom White) also included Gene Travalini, Rusty Hryniewicz, Gary Levar, Barry Burmaster, Randy Gellander.
Semifinalists also included Seneca Braves and Cambrian-Sault Ste. Marie. The Braves included Rick Morandini.
In the postseason tournament final, held in Welland, the Mohawk Mountaineers defeated the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings 105-60 as DeWitt Hanna scored 20, Ralph Gruppe 18, Al Smithson 14, Rimas Sakalas 13, Henry Romanowski 12, Dave Will 8, Jim Armstrong 8, Larry Snaidero 8, Paul Raspopov 2, Tim Simpson 2, while Glen Smith was scoreless. Dave Kennedy led the Vikings with 22. Ted Batchelor added 12, Dave Wilson 11, Henry Lukassen 6, Bill McArthur 7 and Myron Pomery 3, while Larry Haunts was scoreless. Vikings coach Mort Morris told the Kingston Whig-Standard that “they played full-court, man-to-man and aggressive basketball. Wilson and Lukassen just couldn’t match them. If two guys grabbed the ball, our many would end up across the floor.”
