Mohawk Mountaineer fifth-year guard Matthew Fennell was chosen CCAA player of the year. Fennell led the Mountaineers to the OCAA postseason title after they’d finished 2nd in the West division with a 15-3 record. He was chosen OCAA player of the year and a West division first-team all-star. He was named a CCAA All-Canadian for the second consecutive season. The 6-5 guard led the OCAA West in scoring with 28.4 ppg (511 points), while averaging 8.3 rpg, while shooting .548 from the floor, .463 from the arc and .820 from the line (fourth in the conference. He was named MVP of two preseason tournaments (George Brown and St. Lawrence-Kingston invitationals). “He is an explosive scorer who remains poised in all situations,” said Mohawk coach Brian Jonker. “His easy-going nature trickles down to everyone and provides a positive learning environment day-in and day-out. … I believe Matt is the hardest-working person in the gym every day. As a result, he leads by the greatest example.” The other nominees were Justin King (Vancouver Island); Donathan Moss (NAIT); Jordan Aquino-Serjue (Dawson); and D.J. Wright (Holland).

        Vancouver Island’s Matt Kuzminski was chosen CCAA coach of the year after leading the Mariners to a 20-1 regular season record, a four-game improvement over 2014, despite losing several starters, including All-Canadian point guard Brandon Jones. The other nominees were Mike Connolly (NAIT); Shawn Collins (Humber); Daniel Martin (Champlain-St. Lambert); and Duane Starratt (Mount Allison).

Joining Fennell as All-Canadians were: Justin King (Vancouver Island). King was chosen Pac West player of the year and a first-team all-star after leading the league in scoring (23.89 ppg). King also placed fifth in the conference in rebounding with 6.78 rpg in his first year with the Mariners, who finished first in regular season play with a 20-1 record. …………………………………………………… Jitinder Lohcham (Langara). Lohcham was chosen a first-team Pace West all-star after finishing 5th in scoring with 16.76 ppg as the Falcons finished 18-3. …………………………………………………… Donathan Moss (NAIT). The Nassau, Bahamas, native was chosen ACAA player of the year after leading the ACAC North in scoring with 22.57 ppg and finishing 2nd in rebounding with 9.87 rpg as the Ooks notched a 23-1 record in conference play. The 5th-year forward and applied banking and business student also shot over .500 from the floor. “Donny may be one of the most talented athletes I have had the opportunity to coach. He brings a positive ‘island vibe’ to the team. Donny is constantly smiling and that positive nature rubs off on his teammates. He is an elite basketball player and we have all enjoyed watching him perform this season,” said Ooks coach Mike Connolly. …………………………………………………… Guilherme Carabagiale Fuck (Medicine Hat). Carabagiale Fuck was an ACAA South first-team all-star. He finished third in ACAC South scoring with 18.46 ppg as the Rattlers finished 16-8. He was also second in the league in rebounding at 9.75 rpg and third in field goal percentage (.514). …………………………………………………… Tequilan Zwarych (Georgian). The 2nd-year forward led the OCAA East in rebounding with 13.9 rpg and finished in the top 10 in scoring with 20.0 ppg as the Grizzlies finished 2nd in the division with a 14-6 record. He was an OCAA East division first-team all-star. …………………………………………………… Kasheem Thomas (Champlain-St. Lambert). Thomas was a first-team RSEQ all-star after finishing second in the league in assists with 4.3 apg. He was also in the top 20 in scoring (13.5 ppg) and steals (30). The Cavaliers finished first in the standings with a 14-4 record. …………………………………………………… Jordan Aquino-Serjue (Dawson). Aquino-Serjue was chosen RSEQ player of the year and a first-team all-star after leading the league in scoring with 22.6 ppg. He was also among league leaders in steals (39) and assists (59). …………………………………………………… D.J. Wright (Holland). The 6-7 forward from Sault Ste. Marie was the ACAA player of the year. He led the conference in scoring (21.9 ppg), field goal percentage (.583) and blocks (1.72 bpg), while finished 2nd in rebounding (9.08 rpg). Holland led the Hurricanes to an 18-0 regular season record and was a first-team ACAA all-star. …………………………………………………… William Barber (St. Thomas). Barber was a first-team ACAA all-star, while averaging 19.9 ppg to finish fourth in Atlantic conference scoring. He also nabbed 118 boards and pilfered 25 balls.
