Inderbir Gill from the University of Northern British Columbia is chosen player of the year. “It feels great,” said Gill. “It is quite an honour, but it really is a team award. Winning something like this reflects on our team’s success. I cannot thank my coaches and teammates enough.” Gill was ranked second in the BCCAA in scoring averaging 21.3 points per game and third in assists. He is a three-time CCAA All-Canadian, a former CCAA men’s championship MVP and was named 2010’s CCAA Athlete of the Year across all sports. “Inderbir is certainly one of the top players in the country,” says Jeff Harris, CCAA men’s basketball convenor. “He’s a frontrunner in the sport with the record to prove it.” The Thunderwolves qualified for nationals and were the BCCAA’s top scoring team. Other nominees for men’s basketball player of the year were Dominyck Coward of Lethbridge College, Guillaume Payen-Boucard of Collège Ahuntsic and Donathan Moss of Holland College, who were all named CCAA All-Canadians. Trevor Costello of Algonquin College was named the CCAA coach of the year. Costello and the Thunder were the OCAA east region champions with a 19-1 record and were the No. 3 ranked team in Canada at the end of the regular season. Algonquin has an excellent record in a tough league,” said Jeff Harris, CCAA men’s basketball convenor. “Trevor Costello has given the team depth and longevity.” Members of the Costello’s squad include 2011 CCAA All-Canadian Niuguna Waiganjo and players who earlier this month were named the OCAA East Division’s Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and members of the All-Star and All-Rookie teams. The other nominees for the coach of the year were Tony Bryce of Vancouver Island University, Mike Hansen of Lethbridge College, Rick Plato of Mount Saint Vincent University and Wayne Yearwood of Dawson College.
