Brett Kobe from Mount Royal University is chosen Player of the Year. The fifth-year forward led the ACAC conference in rebounding with 10.45 rebounds per game, ranked second in field goal percentage at 59 %, and was the fourth leading scorer in the south division, averaging 15.85 points per game during the season. He also accumulated a team high 11 double-doubles, including a 29-point, 12 rebound performance against the Red Deer Kings. He has been the team captain for the past four seasons, a strong student, and a leader on and off the court. Kobe was named to the 2009-2010 ACAC First Team All-Conference; ACAC Male Basketball Player of the Year; four-time ACAC All-Conference Team Member and CTV Athlete of the Week in December. In addition to his outstanding work on the court and in the classroom, Brett has been heavily involved as a mentor in a program with Catholic Family Services. The program pairs a youth, in need of friendship and a role model, with a Cougars men’s basketball student-athlete. The youth attends team practice once a week and gets to hang out with the guys, and once the practice is completed, Brett spends an additional hour with the youth afterwards – talking, providing leadership and being a friend. The other finalists were: Inderbir Gill (University of Northern British Columbia); Jovain Wilson (Fleming College); Yann Charles (Collège Champlain St. Lambert); and Adam Jewkes (Mount Saint Vincent University)

        Mike Raimbault of the University of North British Columbia is selected coach of the year. In just his second year at the helm, Raimbault took a team that had four returning players in 2008-09 and led them to a 12-6 record, a provincial bronze medal and a fourth-place finish at Nationals to a team in 2009-10 that has had a 17-1 record in regular season, claimed the BCCAA title and earned another trip to the National Championship. A level three certified coach, Raimbault volunteers his time at the Basketball BC Northern Regional Training Centre; and helps out at Spring/Summer basketball camps, and the UNBC Outreach program at local elementary schools. The other finalists were: Mike Stevens (SAIT); Wayne Dawkins (Seneca); Bobby Miller (Montmorency) and Rick Plato (Mount Saint Vincent University).

…………………………………………………… Jovain Wilson, Fleming College, who led his Peterborough-based team to a 15-5 record to finish fourth in the East Division, the Pickering, Ontario native also led the division in scoring with a 22.93 points per game average and finished second overall in league scoring. Not only known for his scoring prowess, Wilson is also a tenacious defender, leader and sportsman and his excellent all-around play earned him a spot as a First Team All-star. “His competitiveness has been second to none and his desire to improve himself and the people around him is evident from the turn around the Fleming Basketball program has made since his arrival,” said head coach Bill Crowdis about his star player. “He has set a standard for his teammates to strive for and has led by example of what a true “student”-athlete is. He maintains excellent grades and has developed into a true leader both on and off of the court.” …………………………………………………… David Korenic, St. Clair College, who led the OCAA in scoring, averaging 26 ppg. The fifth-year veteran finishes his collegiate career with 2034 Career Points at St. Clair College which stands 2nd in all-time Saints history.
