St. Mary’s University guard Maitlynn Miller was chosen CCAA player of the year. The 5-7 guard and 4th-year fitness & health promotion major from Lethbridge, Alta., was the ACAC south player of the year, as well as the league’s defensive player of the year. She led the league in steals and assists, while finishing second in scoring and rebounds per game. Lightning coach Abdell Farag said Miller “sets the tone for us every single day. She’s an elite defender, an exceptional playmaker, and a competitor who refuses to be outworked. Her resilience and passion elevate not only her own game but everyone around her. Maitlynn is the ultimate competitor and the driving force behind our team’s success. She led the ACAC in steals and assists while ranking among the top in scoring and rebounding, proving just how complete her game is. Her energy, toughness, and leadership set the standard for everyone around her. After overcoming a major injury in high school, her resilience and work ethic have only made her stronger. She’s more than deserving of this award, and her impact on this program will be felt for years to come.” She started all 22 ACAC regular season games, playing an average 34.5 mpg. She hit 144-325 (.443) from the floor, 32-103 (.311) from the arc and 80-107 (.748) from the line, while garnering 253 boards, including 73 on the offensive glass and an 11.5 rpg, 54 fouls (fouling out once), 119 assists, 81 turnovers, a 1.5 asst/to ratio, 11 blocks, 116 steals and 400 points, for an 18.2 ppg.
Champlain Saint-Lambert coach George Germanos was chosen CCAA coach of the year. In his 28th-year of coach, he guided the Cavaliers to t 13-1 regular-season record. CCAA women’s basketball convenor Mai Nguyen said ““George is a coach who continually demonstrates professionalism, deep care for his athletes, and a passion for growing the sport at all levels.
