Olds forward Brittney Thibeaux was named CCAA player of the year after leading the Broncos to a 17-4 record and a second-place finish in the ACAC South division, and ultimately, a national title. The 4th-year forward led the league in scoring (27.2 ppg) and finished tied for second with 1.7 bpg and fourth with 205 boards (9.8 rpg). She notched 11 double-doubles on the campaign. “Brittney had a historical season in the ACAC,” said Mai-Anh Nguyen, CCAA Women’s Basketball Convenor. “Her numbers are astounding.” Olds athletic director Linda Henderson said “Brittney is an outstanding student-athlete who comes prepared to compete in every practice and in every game. Her poise, dedication and determination to lead her team is what makes her recognition so inspiring.” Other nominees for the award were Rachel Beauchamp of the Douglas Royals (PACWEST), Chuot Angou of the Fanshawe Falcons (OCAA), Donna Ophombo Ntambue of the Nomades de Montmorency (RSEQ) and Maria Carroll of the MSVU Mystics (ACAA).

        Mount St. Vincent’s Mark Forward was named CCAA coach of the year after guiding the Mystics to an 18-0 record and first-place finish in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). “Despite losing several key players from last year’s squad, Mark led the Mystics to a perfect season in the ACAA and a third straight trip to CCAA Nationals,” said Mai-Anh Nguyen, CCAA Women’s Basketball Convenor. “He is always able to get the very best out of his student-athletes.” Forward, who played for MSVU from 1988-92 and was a two-time CCAA All-Canadian, has been named the ACAA Coach of the Year the last three seasons. “Mark’s hard work, professionalism and integrity as a person is truly appreciated and valued by his student athletes, coaches and coworkers,” said June Lumsden, Director of Athletics & Recreation at Mount Saint Vincent University. “The Mount is very proud of coach Forward’s accomplishments and his contribution to the CCAA, ACAA, his community, the Mount and our student athletes.” The other nominees included Tony Bryce of Vancouver Island (PACWEST); Avery Harrison of Olds (ACAC); Bill Carriere of Fanshawe (OCAA); and Trevor Williams of Dawson (RSEQ).

The fifth-year forward led the PACWEST with 19.3 points per game and 13.1 rebounds per game. She was also named PACWEST Player of the Year and with the selection, became a three-time CCAA All-Canadian. She is a past recipient of the CCAA Academic All-Canadian and CCAA National Scholar awards. …………………………………………………… Amber Lease (Vancouver Island). The third-year guard led the Mariners to a 17-1 record and first-place regular season finish in the PACWEST. She ranked first in the conference with 79 assists and second with 37 steals, and was chosen a first-team PACWEST all-star. …………………………………………………… Jessica Haenni (University of Alberta-Augustana). The second-year point guard was second in the ACAC North Division with 14.7 points per game and ranked among the conference leaders with 70 assists. She led the Vikings to a 15-9 record and tie for third place in the division. …………………………………………………… Chuot Angou (Fanshawe). The 4th-year guard was named the OCAA player of the year. She averaged 17.3 ppg in scoring and helped the Falcons to a 19-1 record and a first-place finish in the loop’s west division. She was third in the league in treys made, hitting 46-123 (.374). …………………………………………………… Rita Sibo (Algonquin). The third-year point guard led the Thunder to a first-place finish in the OCAA East Division with a 15-2 record. She notched 14.1 ppg, 4.3 apg and 2.9 spg, while the league in three-point shooting (28-67, or .418). …………………………………………………… Donna Ophombo Ntambue (Montmorency). Ntambue became the first player to earn RSEQ Rookie, Defensive and Player of the Year honours in the same season. She led the conference in scoring (16.7 ppg) and steals (3.3 spg), while averaging 9.5 rpg and helping the Nomades to an 11-3 record and third-place finish in the RSEQ. …………………………………………………… Rosane Makolo (Dawson). The second-year point guard led the Blues to a 12-2 record and tie for first place in the RSEQ regular season standings. The two-time CCAA All-Canadian averaged 14 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 3.4 apg. …………………………………………………… Maria Carroll (Mount Saint Vincent). The fifth-year point guard and ACAA player of the year led the Mystics to a perfect 21-0 record and first-overall finish in the league’s final regular season standings. She averaged 12.9 ppg, 3.3 apg and 2.9 spg. …………………………………………………… Bridget Frazee (St. Thomas). The third-year guard led the Tommies to a second-place finish in the ACAA regular season standings with a 17-4 record. She ranked second in the league in scoring (15 ppg).
