Humber Hawks guard Ceejay Nofuente was chosen player of the year after leading her team to an 18-0 record and a first-place finish in the OCAA’s West Division. “Nofuente is an outstanding representative of the CCAA as the Player of the Year,” said Thom Gillespie, CCAA Women’s Basketball Convenor. “She is a high achiever in the classroom, in the community as well as on the court.” The third-year point guard set career highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. She led the conference in steals per game (4.5) and assists per game (6.4). She was eighth in rebounds per game (8.7) and 11th in points per game (14.3). “She has a team first mentality,” said Gillespie. “These undeniable contributions at both ends of the court separate Ceejay from her peers.” The other nominees were Sienna Pollard of the VIU Mariners (PACWEST), Cameo McKerlie of the Lakeland Rustlers (ACAC), Laurie Marchand of les Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy (RSEQ) and Jenea Barrett of the Holland Hurricanes (ACAA).

        Humber’s Ajay Sharma was chosen coach of the year. He guided the Hawks to a perfect 18-0 record and first-place finish in the OCAA’s West Division. Humber scored 144 more points this season, while holding opponents to 52 fewer points. “The CCAA has a tremendous role model in Sharma, who has restored the Humber Hawks into a top-tier National program while developing outstanding student-athletes under his direction,” said Thom Gillespie, CCAA Women’s Basketball Convenor. Other nominees included Courtney Gerwing (Douglas); Chris King (Lakeland); Faisal Docter (Trois-Rivieres); and Matt Gamblin (Mount Allison).

        Joining Nofuente on the All-Canadian first-team were: …………………………………………………… Miriam Baumann (Quest). The fourth-year forward was first in the PacWest in the PACWEST in rebounds per game (13.3), second in assists per game (4.3) and steals per game (3.4) and fourth in points per game (15.2). …………………………………………………… Sienna Pollard (Vancouver Island). The fourth-year forward led the Mariners to a 19-2 record and first-place finish in the PACWEST.  She finished second in the PacWest in points per game (18.1) and third in rebounds per game (9.5). …………………………………………………… Montana Romeril (St. Mary’s University). The third-year guard led the Lightning to an 18-3 record, its best season yet in the ACAC. She was first in the conference in points per game (28.5), second in steals per game (4.1) and assists per game (4.6). She set a new single-season ACAC record with 78 three-point conversions. …………………………………………………… Cameo McKerlie (Lakeland). The fifth-year forward led the Rustlers to a 24-0 record and first-place finish in the ACAC’s North Division. She was second in the division in points per game (14.6), third in steals per game (2.4) and fourth in rebounds per game (6.9). …………………………………………………… Lindsay Panchan (Durham). A repeat CCAA All-Canadian in 2015, the fourth-year guard led the OCAA in points per game (24.6) and rebounds per game (12.5). She also averaged 3.4 apg. …………………………………………………… Laurie Marchand (Sainte-Foy). The RSEQ Most Valuable Player led the Dynamiques to a 15-3 record and a tie atop the conference standings. She was sixth in scoring in the RSEQ with 14.6 points per game, first with 51 three-point conversions and second in assists per game (3.8). …………………………………………………… Carrie-Ann Auger (Trois-Rivieres). The second-year guard led Trois-Rivières to a 15-3 record and a tie for first place in the RSEQ. She was fourth in the conference with an average of 17 points per game. …………………………………………………… Jazlin Barker (Holland). A repeat All-Canadian, Barker led Holland to a 16-2 record and first-place finish in the ACAA. The third-year guard was fifth in the conference in points per game with 15.3. She led the conference in assists (96) and was third in three-point conversions (36). …………………………………………………… Jenea Barrett (Holland). The fifth-year guard led the ACAA in points per game with 18.1. Barrett was 10th in the conference in rebounds per game (7.0). She was third in turnovers (75), fourth in assists (64) and fifth in steals (44).
