Olds guard Jylisa Williams was chosen player of the year. Williams was chosen ACAC player of the year after leading the league and the country in scoring with 25.21 ppg. She led the Broncos to the national tournament in the program’s first year. She averaged 9.19 rpg. “Jylisa’s performance stood out,” says Judy Smith, host chair of the 2013 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship. “Her points, records and statistics are all very impressive.” The other nominees were Ashley Bawn of the St Thomas Tommies, Amonda Francis of the Douglas Royals, Lacey Knox of the St Lawrence Kingston Vikings and Frédérique Potvin of the Vanier Cheetahs.
St. Thomas’ Fred Connors was chosen national coach of the year for the second consecutive season. “Fred has put together a great program,” says Judy Smith, host chair of the 2013 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship. “They took home a CCAA bronze medal in 2012, didn’t drop a game all season and did well competing in exhibition tournaments.” Over the past three years, the Tommies have been undefeated in ACAA regular season play and have earned three consecutive ACAA titles and a CCAA bronze medal. The other nominees were Johnny Charles of the Lynx d’Édouard-Montpetit, Curtis Nelson of the Douglas Royals, Leanne Shenton of the Augustana Vikings, and Remy Simpson of the St Lawrence Kingston Vikings.
Joining Williams on the All-Canadian team were: Ashley Bawn (St. Thomas). Bawn was chosen ACAA player of the year. Bawn led the Tommies to a 21-0 regular season record, while averaging 12.14 points per game. She was also a first-team all-star. …………………………………………………… Corina Bruni (Algoma). Bruni was selected All-Canadian for the second consecutive season. The fourth-year guard led all OCAA players with 101 assists and was second in steals with 71 during the regular season. She averaged 15.6 points per game to go with her 98 rebounds and five blocks. Bruni is also an OCAA West first-team all-star. …………………………………………………… Amonda Francis (Douglas). Francis was the PACWEST player of the year and scoring leader. She finished second in the loop in scoring. …………………………………………………… Jocelyn Jones (Vancouver Island). Jones led the PACWEST in assists and was second in scoring. …………………………………………………… Lacey Knox (St. Lawrence). Knox (Kingston) won the OCAA East and overall scoring championship, leading all OCAA players with a 20.3 points per game average. The third-year guard scored 365 points while contributing 145 rebounds, 51 steals, 44 assists and 27 blocks. Knox also headlines the OCAA East first-team all-star and led the league in three-point field goal percentage. …………………………………………………… Sara-Jane Marois (Sainte-Foy). Marois ran the Dynamiques offence with aplomb. A year earlier, she’s been named MVP at the CCAA nationals. Moore finished second in the ACAA in scoring. …………………………………………………… Kelly O’Hallahan (Grande Prairie). O’Hallahan finished second in the country in scoring. …………………………………………………… Frédérique Potvin (Vanier). Potvin was the RSEQ player of the year after leading the league in scoring (17.3 ppg) and assists.
