Montmorency’s Mariam Sylla was chosen player of the year. Sylla led the RSEQ in scoring and rebounding, while ranking fourth in the country. “Mariam Sylla is the total package,” says Mireille Beland, CCAA women’s basketball convenor. “Her individual statistics combined with her academic record make her an exemplary student-athlete.” She was chosen RSEQ player of the year for the third consecutive season. She led the Nomades to a 15-5 record. The other nominees for 2012 CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year were Sandra Bascoe of the Algonquin Thunder, Chelsea MacKay of the MSVU Mystics, Kristen Monasterski of the MacEwan Griffins, and Jenna Ralston of the Capilano Blues.

Grant MacEwan’s Rob Poole was chosen coach of the year. Poole steered the Griffins to a perfect season record of 32-0 in both league and exhibition play. The other nominees for 2012 CCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year were Fred Connors of the St Thomas Tommies, Patrick Dagenais of the Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy, John MacInnis of the Algonquin Thunder and Loralyn Murdoch of the UNBC Timberwolves.

        Joining Sylla on the All-Canadian team were: Sandre Bascoe (Algonquin). Bascoe was chosen OCAA player of the year and a first-team East division all-star. Bascoe (Ottawa) ranked fourth among OCAA players in steals with 64, fifth in points with 258, and sixth in rebounds with 157. She was also second in the league with a 50.5 field goal percentage, and ranked fourth with a 16.1 points per game average. …………………………………………………… Corina Bruni (Algoma). The third-year guard ranked fourth among OCAA players with 264 points, third in steals with 65 and second in assists with 84. She ranked seventh with her 14.7 points per game average. Bruni was also an OCAA West Division first-team all-star.
…………………………………………………… Jennifer Clyne (Northern British Columbia). Clyne was a PACWEST first-team all-star. …………………………………………………… Rachel Caputo (SAIT). Caputo was the ACAC’s leading scorer. A repeat All-Canadian, she was also named the all-star for the fourth consecutive year. …………………………………………………… Lindy MacDonald (Holland). …………………………………………………… Kristen Monasterski (Grant MacEwan). Monasterski ranked first in the ACAC in rebounding, field goal percentage and double-doubles.
