In the quarterfinals, Alberta champ Grande Prairie, coached by Kelly Ohlhauser, pounded the Nova Scotia Teachers College Hawks, coached by Jennifer Lloyd, 74-58. Kim Harris paced the Wolves with 25. Kerri MacDonald scored 16 to lead the Hawks. Kara Mason added 13. Grande Prairie led 28-21 at the half. Ohlhauser told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “we weren’t really as focused as we should have been. They played really hard and we played like a team that knew we didn’t have to play as hard to beat them.”

In the other quarterfinal, the Fanshawe Falcons, coached by Jeff Farrugia, administered an 81-46 pasting to the host Nova Scotia Agricultural College Rams, coached by Judy Smith.

In the semis, the Totem champ Fraser Valley Cascades, coached by Sandy Chambers, defeated the Grande Prairie Wolves 61-56.

In the other semi, the Montmorency Nomades dumped the Fanshawe Falcons 70-39 as Anne Smith scored 13.

In the bronze medal match, the Grande Prairie Wolves edged the Fanshawe Falcons 64-63 as Kim Harris hit a three, her first of the season, with three seconds to play. Wolves coach Kelly Ohlhauser told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “I’m happy because it definitely verified that we’re one of the best teams in the country. After we lost to Fraser Valley Friday night, the girls were devastated. We had taken so many steps this year, we needed just one more step to put us in that gold medal game and give us a chance to win it all. It was so close. That was the lowest we have been all year after that semi-final loss. And I told the girls on Friday night after the game that they would show more character and courage by how they came out and played Saturday in the bronze medal game than they would have in the gold medal game.” The Falcons (coached by Jeff Farrugia) included Paula Rich, Becky Huntley, Michelle Martin, Sandra Brulotte, Jenny Granger, Pam Skinner, Michelle Martin, Carrie Ramsay, Annette Rice, Jennifer Roberts, Cheri Heslop, Dionne Greavers and Stephanie Brewer.

In the final, the Montmorency Nomades defeated the Fraser Valley Cascades 58-55 as Anne Smith scored 20. The Nomades led 29-26 at the half. Fraser Valley was led by Denise Rehman and Martha Craig, each with 12 points. It was also reported that Craig scored 14. Cascade Sue Parke told the Abbotsford News that “it’s always tough to take a loss in the national championship. We went through it last year. It has to be the worst feeling in the world.” Carol Vinson added that “it hurst and it’s disappointing. … We worked so hard all year and we really wanted to win.” The Cascades led by four with 5 minutes to play but sputtered down the stretch. Vinson said “that’s what stopped us from winning. Little spurs where we wouldn’t score. That game them the chance to come back and score. That’s what hurt us. There were some things we could have done better. We could have relaxed more and we could have stopped them from going inside.” Cascades coach Sandy Chambers said “tonight, we were inconsistent, both offensively and defensively. Whenever we did that, Montmorency came back on us.”
