        In the quarterfinals, held at Kelowna’s Cariboo College, the top-seeded Quebec and defending champs Dawson Blues, coached by Rocco Buono, thrashed the 8th-seeded and B.C. runner-up Fraser Valley Cascades, coached by Pat Lee, 70-46. The Blues led 40-27 at the half. Lori Fehr led the Cascades with 11. Debbie Forsythe added 8, Carolyn Lucy 8 and Trina Penny 8.

        The 4th-seeded Ontario champ Mohawk Mountaineers, coached by Earl Begg; defeated the 5th-seeded Nova Scotia champ University of King’s College Blue Devils, coached by Kathie Wheadon-Hore, 81-37.

        The 3rd-seeded Alberta champ Mount Royal Cougars, coached by Donovan Martin, stomped the 6th-seeded Saskatchewan champ Kelsey Institute Amaruks, coached by Len Jeffries, 71-28.

        The 2nd-seeded B.C. champ Douglas Royals, coached by Richard Norman, whipped the 7th-seeded Manitoba champ Red River CC, coached by Steve Maitland, 92-25. The Rebels were hampered when starting post Lynn Cowley was sidelined by an injured ankle, leaving them with only seven players, one of whom, Julia Procyshyn, was limited by shin splints. “We only play her when we absolutely have to. Now that Lynn’s out, we’ll have to play her if we get into foul trouble,” coach Steve Maitland told The Projector. “And with her shins like they are, she plays at less than 50%. … We definitely got kicked. The girls were flustered and tense, it being their first time at the nationals.”

        In the bronze quarterfinals, the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the King’s College Blue Devils 59-45 as Lori Fehr scored 21 and Trina Penny 6.

        In the other bronze quarterfinal, the SIAST-Kelsey Amaruks defeated the Red River CC Rebels 72-61. Rebels coach Steve Maitland told The Projector that his troops were understaffed because of the ankle injury to post Lynn Cowley. “If we had Lynn in that game we would’ve won. I’m convinced we’re a better team than they are>

        In the semis, the Dawson Blues crushed the Mohawk Mountaineers 72-54.

        In the other semi, the Mount Royal Cougars stomped the Douglas Royals 66-47.

        In the bronze semis, the Douglas Royals clocked the Fraser Valley Cascades 90-24. Debbie Forsythe paced the Cascades with 12. Sandra Farmer added 11. The Cascades included Lori Fehr, Carolyn Lucy, Trina Penny.

        In the other bronze semi, the Mohawk Mountaineers whipped the Kelsey Institute Amaruks 79-25.

        In the bronze medal match, the Mohawk Mountaineers dusted the Douglas Royals 70-56 as Marcine Black scored 19.

        In the final, Dawson successfully defended its title by notching a 52-42 win as Julieth Lewis scored 17 and Martine Dandurand 22. Dawson led 26-21 at the half. The score was tied at 36 with six minutes to play and Lewis took over, scoring six points in the final minutes. Denise McPhee paced the Cougars with 15. Leslie Morgan added 10.
