In the quarterfinals, held in Moose Jaw, the Quebec champ Dawson Blues defeated the wild card (generally, the second-place team in the host conference) and host Saskatoon Kelsey Institute Amaruks, coached by Bill Baker, 79-42.
The Alberta champ Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves, coached by Pat McDonald, whipped the Ontario champ Fanshawe Falcons, coached by Peter Campbell, 65-46. Patti Johnson was chosen player of the game for Grande Prairie after scoring 26.
The BC champ Langara (then the Vancouver CC) Falcons, coached by Duncan McCallum rolled to an easy 75-8 win over the Manitoba champ Assiniboine CC Cougars, coached by Bill Moody.
In the last quarterfinal, the Nova Scotia champ, Nova Scotia Teachers College Hawks, coached by Ian Banks, clipped the Saskatchewan champ Canadian Bible College Crusaders, coached by Tim Moore, 69-53.
In the bronze quarterfinals, the Fanshawe Falcons dumped the SIAST-Kelsey Amaruks 74-49. Amaruks coach Bill Baker told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “we made them play the tempo of game we wanted. We played well. WE got to within six points of them when we played control and they were rattled. But then they got into the running game and we just couldn’t keep up.” The Amaruks included Kathy Gazda.
In the other bronze quarterfinal, the Canadian Bible College Crusaders thrashed the Assiniboine CC Cougars 62-29.
In the semis, Julieth Lewis scored 20 to lead the Dawson Blues past the Grande Prairie Wolves 70-63. Patti Johnson scored 22 for Grand Prairie and was chosen player of the game. Grande Prairie’s Kelly Hunter was gimpy from a knee injury suffered in the firs quarter, while point guard Lisette Boulet was in foul trouble. After Hunter and Lorna Lizee fouled out in the final two minutes, the Wolves were left with four players on the floor. Blues coach Rocco Buono told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “they got into a lot of foul trouble early. We knew they only had seven players and we wanted to press them early to find out how long they could last. As it turned out, they couldn’t handle our press. They showed why they are ranked second when they got some momentum going for them in the second half. With two more players, who knows?” The Wolves committed 49 turnovers and trailed by as many as 23. Wolves coach Patrick McDonald said “it’s the old story of not enough depth. We just didn’t have it. But I’m really proud of my girls. They showed a lot of courage and never gave up.”
In the other semi, the Langara Falcons defeated the Nova Scotia Teachers College Hawks 65-49.

In the bronze medal match, the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves defeated the Fanshawe Falcons 65-54 as Patti Johnson scored 26 and nabbed 17 boards. The Wolves led 39-32 at the half but the Falcons ripped off a 14-2 run to draw within three with six minutes to play. Wolve Kelly Hunter, playing with a stretched knee ligament, told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “we we got ahead, we tries to push passes where they didn’t go and the game turned completely around. But we settled down and started playing our game towards the end. … It was my last game, so I just had to forget about everything else and play. There’s a lot of character on this team, from all the players.”
In the final, the Dawson Blues nipped the Langara Falcons 65-64 in overtime.
